Evening all your beauties
So what are your experiences of the planned socials … not the 1-1 but the event type …where like minded folk attend.
Did they work out for you?
Would you do them again?
Are you a frequent attendee?

I've been to a few different ones now and they can definitely be overwhelming if you're a quiet/reserved type of person. If you're not in the right zone they can be stressful too.
Otherwise it's a great way to meet people. Put yourself out there and connect where you can |

Years ago I organised a few in Edinburgh and they were fun nights. It's hard work but I think everyone who attended had a good night. I went out of my way to make sure everyone was interacting and chatting with others and it filled my wee soul.
I've been to a few Glasgow socials over the years and again, a lot of work goes into them.
I'm looking forward to my first lounge social though. I think it will be a very different night out as there's so many people I've already chatted with and can't wait to meet in person.
So organised socials are a yes from me. |

York in July, it's small great hosts and some nice people go would really recommend it. Off to the Manchester social in August it's an unknown but we'll see how it goes, hopefully some more fun friends |

I like the sound of this…. Maybe this is where I need to head to get better interaction…. That way I’ll figure out if it’s my chat tahts actually terrible or just the fact it’s via messaging

I've really enjoyed them for the most part, I'm definitely enjoying them a lot more currently.
They're great to go to with someone - whether that's a lover or a friend it can be good to have that person with you. And they might change their mind and think they're not half bad.
They can be a tad overwhelming at times, new place, new people, loud... I guess it depends on the one you go to. Different socials have different vibes/people that attend.
If you find the right one and put in the effort, not only will you singalong to Hamilton, you'll also get a chance to flirt, meet some fantastic people whose friendship can transcend Fab. And dance. Poorly.
There are a couple I'm planning on going to in the coming months. I need to decide which ones are definite before the end of the month. :D |

Normally you find single guys are limited on some social, there's definitely more couples and single ladies than single guys |

I think if you know some of the people going, they're an absolute blast as you have the people you know as a safety blanket and that gives you confidence to chat to new people. It can be very daunting and overwhelming with how many people are there but the ones I've been to haven't been cliquey as I'd worried and people are more than happy to chat |

I only started with the swinging thing in April. The first one I went to in Manchester I went saying to myself that I would only stay for an hour and a half. I stayed all night and had a blast. I have been to 4 group socials since including the Manchester MLS, and Up the Brum. I highly recommend them. I don't go having expectations. And I see them as a way to make friends with like minded people. If I make sexy connections too then great but I don't treat it as my goal. I did a post about group socials a while ago. I will find it and put it here.

We've been to a few now, I love them, I find it so much easier meeting people at face value.
I think as long as you mingle a little there really fun, if you stand in a corner and expect everyone to approach you not so much, it's a bit like fab you get out what you put in.
In my experience everyone is friendly and it's a great way to meet new people.
We've our next one in October for the Leeds social I can't wait.

Hey Maren, if you do want someone to walk in with? I'm more than happy to be that someone. Once your foot is through the door it's so much easier, it's just getting to that point that can be tricky. Anyway, let me know, x |

I'm looking forward to Bedford in September as another new for me social

"If you don’t mind.
If anyone likes his type of social, this idea was born for and from the lounge …
https://m.fabswingers.com/forum/meets/1472396 "
No offence…. This is where you have to be an OG… this is nowhere near the right answer!
This might of been the post COVID reboot… but the fab socials were things of lore
You could almost set out a timetable and diary…. Wigan taking over a cricket club, 400 at the Glasgow social, persuading a Nottingham city centre pub to go private on a Saturday night to let 300 of us party, booking out 3 wings of a hotel in Doncaster, getting 3 buses to take people post social in Newcastle to a curry house
Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton, Essex , the gay village in Manchester, the Cardiff takeover of an Aussie pub!
A few things back then…
1) organisers use to liaise with each other so they didn’t clash and they were spaced apart
2) people from all over the country use to go and make weekends of them
3) they were not affiliated with clubs… social literally meant socialising and in that respect you didn’t have to limit different groups because you knew they were non play events (what you did after was up to you)
Me and obi-fox talked about it in a thread about socials a few weeks ago on here
In a weird way you didn’t have to worry about journalists being there because there was no play the headline “adults getting d*unk and singing on a Saturday night” isn’t really grabbing!
I will always maintain what killed the grand old socials of old were the rise of local chatrooms… because people then thought in an insular way, and the chatrooms are little bubbles within themselves!

Went to a Couple Years ago when I was first on here..
Totally insane for a Newbie to Socials but I've bitten the bullet and am off to UtB9 on my own (If you see someone sat in the Corner for a while.. that'll be me!)
It's a great way to meet People You Wouldn't/Couldn't play with and just chat with them about everything.
No Play means no pressure for that click but yeah, it worked for Me..
Highly recommend going to One (or 10) and just chilling with People who aren't going to judge you or critisise your lifestyle and just have a bloody good laugh about anything from Halls Soothers to a particual drink |

I've attended a handful of London socials. The Bank Social was my first one and I was extremely nervous and hesitant in attending, because I didn't really know what I had signed up for! It was also very convenient to get to and I knew that I could bail out if my nerves got the better of me.
I previously attended the (now defunct) 'City Social' which was a much smaller affair but thoroughly enjoyable - it was like a dinner party in a wine bar.
I recently mentioned The Central North London Social, which is now the stalwart of the London-based socials. I've only been a couple of times and these have been a genuinely fantastic experience, a perfect conduit to meet some truly wonderful, engaging, inclusive but bat-shit crazy Forumites!
I still find them a daunting experience because of nervousness and the "going alone Billy no mates" sense of feeling.
I'm attending the next Manchester Social in September. This is a big step for me as it's my first non-London social. |

I still find them a daunting experience because of nervousness and the "going alone Billy no mates" sense of feeling"
Yep, I get You there.. I'm nervous as hell about UtB9 (Also Local so I know where to go if I bail) but also it's exciting as it's out of that "comfort zone" but as You know, once You're in that door, it's so welcoming that you feel you've known some people for years |

"Went to a Couple Years ago when I was first on here..
Highly recommend going to One (or 10) and just chilling with People who aren't going to judge you or critisise your lifestyle and just have a bloody good laugh about anything from Halls Soothers to a particual drink
You’ll be well looked after at UTB - it’s always great night

Second what J says, always a good night with loads of friendly people. |

"If you don’t mind.
If anyone likes his type of social, this idea was born for and from the lounge …
https://m.fabswingers.com/forum/meets/1472396
Ok. "

Organised socials and the forums are the essence of my Fab experience.
I’ve done a few in London (including one last night) and also did Manchester earlier in the year (and I’m back next month)
I thoroughly enjoy them and enjoy chatting with people I might not naturally converse with in the forums or in private chats |

Why don't you think you fit in appearance wise? There are people of all shapes, sizes, age... you get the idea.
I don't think socials are easy if you're shy, at all. x |

I'm considering starting a couple of London socials. Midweek ones for those that can't do weekends (I usually cant)
I piggy backed on a abandoned cubs and Cougars thread to gauge interest but only really got guys in their late 30s - 40s replying.
To me a cub is 18-29 right? |

The thought of a massive group social makes me shiver. I think I operate much better in smaller more intimate groups, mainly 121’s with singles or couples, most I’ve ever done off Fab was with 3 ladies off the forums for a night out in London back when I was here first, even then I felt a bit out of place as they were kind of in girls night out mode.. |

We’ve been and didn’t have the best experience, more to do with the venue being too small than anything. The people were great and made some good connections there though |

I felt like this. Then we went to our 1st social & there was such a mix of people wearing whatever they felt comfortable in (jeans, dresses, trainers, heels, Docs) & not caring what others thought of them x Last week I walked in looking like a drowned rat, barefoot carrying my soaked sandals - not my best look but still had a great time xx |

We have been to quite a few Birmingham (UTB) socials and love them! We have made so many great connections, and proper friends off the back of it.
We are going to spread our wings and try the Leeds social a bit later in the year too. Any hand holders for that one would be appreciated

I use to attend the organised London socials fairly regularly before lockdown and always found them a good night out with the opportunity to make some connections for future adult events or 1 to 1 adult fun.I attended my first social for 3 years at the start of the year and it was a good night out and I hope to attend more in the near future. For me it’s about making the time to attend which I don’t always do. |

"Evening all your beauties
So what are your experiences of the planned socials … not the 1-1 but the event type …where like minded folk attend.
Did they work out for you?
Would you do them again?
Are you a frequent attendee?
" I did try to go to one recently unfortunately it wasn't advertised in the meets section so i was late getting to it and even though i was a few weeks before the event no places left for guys, they were still advertising for women and couples the day before, such is life |

We love them, like a few that mentioned it before, the utb socials are always good, great venues and such a great mix of people. The organisers really go to town ensuring everyone has a good night.
