Originally it was the body of a man that used to be athletic-like that now he is married and has kids, has been a bit lax as the years have gone on. Still keeping a bit of the younger vibe, but loosely.
Now it is now no longer a specific body type but an umbrella term for anything that is not buff or slim.

"A man what has/had children.
So isn't a physical look then? Just a father?
So really they aren't looking for a dad bod, they are looking for a father figure. "
It’s just a pisstake on the ‘mum tum’ thing. Women who have birthed children may be described as having a mum bod (as if this is a bad thing ) so some blokes started the dad bod thing to excuse some of their own perceived undesirable physical attributes. |

Personally when I see the "mum tum" or "mum bod" on a profile bio, it makes me more interested. |

I'd say I've got a Dad-bod as well..
(Ladies please advise) - I've never gone to a Gym (to work out) - used to be 19st and have 2.5 kids! (The .5 is a Step-daughter I call my own) -
I'm not Ripped, have Rolls and Scars..
Dad-Bod as said above was created by the Yanks (Possibly) to describe anything between Average and a Bigger Build.

So someone who is active or had a manual labour type job but also likes to eat without counting macros?
Do guys call themselves "dad bod" types like women call themselves BBW? |

Here’s my alternative take.
It’s not about being a father. It’s about nostalgia.
Our Dads lived in a more innocent time. Without six-packs, gym memberships and social media body ideals. We see ‘normal’ men’s bodies and are reminded of our Dads. Hence the term ‘Dad bod’. |
