You don’t see the topic list bursting with 3 figure threads anymore.

Is this a reflection of the standard slipping? Are folk not starting many thought provoking threads anymore? Do we need more FAF threads? Please discuss

Love and Peace

I think it's more... people like easy threads. Ones they can post a quick flirty reply or not think too much about. Or ones that have them foaming at the mouth in outrage at the audacity of the OP. They always do quite well.

Anyway, I don't think the sign of a good thread is how many people post on it. I've given way too serious a reply, maybe FAF is the way to go.

It has got _really_ boring over the past few months - every day it is the same people jumping on a bandwagon and putting out different variations of the same thread or just naming one of their favourite forumites and then everyone is fawning over them.

It is all yawnsville now.

That's how it's been for a long ass time. Much more than a few months.

The only thing that changes are the people doing the posting, being named, or doing the fawning.

Part of that will be on those who just don't bother to do new threads themselves and leave it to others just as much as it is on those that do create shite threads.

Thought provoking threads I love The forum lacks then compared to when I first joined. But there's also a lack of other topics now that certain subjects are banned. Some subjects are said to have no place in a swingers site and belong elsewhere instead. But they do apply to swingers too.

Compared to a few years back threads are mind numbingly boring, often immature and far too common.

And I've been posting them myself this week so it's a bit rich coming from me.

But to be honest I think serious threads aren't even attempted these days as most people answer them with a witty piss take comment and spoil the discussion before it gets off the ground. Or they simply give the OP hell and belittle then or take the piss out of them instead of actually being adults.

Yay, I got full marks! So chuffed.

I do sometimes post more thought provoking threads because various things inspire them. It's not as often now. I liked when there were more threads like that - ones you can sink your teeth into, actually have proper discussions about without falling into fallacies.

I think part of the issue is those who complain about the 'meh' don't really contribute or take part in more erm "stimulating topics".

It's easy to have a whinge about the state of things, less so to be proactive and actually post the content you (a general you) bemoan has vanished.

I post a lot less thread's lately. Personally I find it hard to come up with original ideas, most have been posted numerous times and It seems to be getting on others nerves, although I will be commenting on others thread's there's not many on here that I find appealing either.

To the people who have never or rarely started thread's maybe it's time they had a try and see if they can come up with something original or something that hasn't been done for a while.

It has become very repetitive. I do feel we need more originality, more personalities posting varied topics. Things change and move with the times however the last few months we just just see the same drivel over and over again.

It was normally the subject - almost never the person. You would have something contentious where there were several sides and everyone would have a good argument about it.

You very rarely got flippant remarks/flirting on a big thread.

Starting serious threads relies on people wanting to talk about serious things. It’s clear people in here don’t like that AS much. I used to start serious threads more than I do now but it always felt like people don’t want to talk about their emotions or their deeper thoughts. People engage way more and have way more ‘fun’ in stupid threads. And as everyone constantly reminds us, this place is supposed to be fun.

I'm not going to disagree with this at all because you're right. Fast food merchants did make me laugh. Yep, they exist. It's easy junk food for the brain and provides temporary endorphins.

At the same time... why not introduce a bit of nutritional value? We can moan about the shit offerings or choose to introduce something a bit better for ourselves. That's not directed at you! More a general observation. If everyone here posting about how crap junk food is actually took time to introduce some real substance? There'd be a lot less moaning.

I used to do serious threads. Varied topics.

They go nowhere. People barely interacted in them, nevermind just posting shit replies or flirting constantly. They would die a quick death and be spammed off the first page.

To be fair that's what my new threads do too. But I'm no longer trying to keep it interesting for others, I'm doing what I feel like doing at the time. And pointless threads are just a better ratio of effort to results.

It is no longer about the thread topic, it's about who posts it and, or especially who has replied and how they replied.

It is no longer about the thread topic, it's about who posts it and, or especially who has replied and how they replied. "

I think this is accurate - the shit threads fill up quickly and so push the other stuff off the front page. I think the big difference now is the sheer number of easy threads that appear compared to previously.

Literally this. You can post serious threads and many of us in here have. But realistically unless it’s a woman posting it- good luck. "

I'm not sure even being a woman is enough to save a more serious thread now.

Maybe things will change but right now, yeah there's more banal, lam threads.

I don't want to discredit those who are starting threads though. Making an effort to try and add something and not just sitting back and moaning. While not all threads will be to my taste, I still appreciate them.

Oh it still helps and has value in terms of a serious topic having some staying power by being created by a woman. But yes, it's lost a lot of its value.

I’ll offer my summary but please don’t confuse this with me caring or moaning as I’m perfectly happy ignoring the dross and interacting with the handful of genuinely interesting threads/ posters

:

Threads aren’t around long enough to gather speed lately as certain posters have this attention need issue almost monopolising the first page with their generic content.

Thread after thread, pathetic questions just for the sake of questions, no interest in the answers, no chance of genuine discussion.

Questions that they obviously pull from other social media outlets and farm out on here.

I don’t blame them as such, it’s the army of zombies that keep replying to them.

Like any kind of pest really… if you keep leaving food out they keep coming back.

The flashing thread yesterday, was a fairly serious discussion thread.

Very few of those that will likely complain about lack of variety actually posted in it. They contributed nothing to it. Some did.

It is definitely an issue on both sides.

"Thought provoking threads I love The forum lacks then compared to when I first joined.

Oh I would bet they do. But it's exactly the point I made earlier. People go back and take the piss or make witty remarks. So no one's going to talk out of the sheer fact they'll get lynched.

Oh jeez what to say about this topic...

I think it's maybe more about the people complaining all the damn time rather than you know, coming up with fun/super serious threads themselves if they can make it better apparently.

There's only so much sexy stuff in the world, alot will get regurgitated the more you are on here.

I dont take this seriously enough. If there's a serious thread, I just won't comment in it. It's quite easy to do that. And if I want to spark and interesting fun (in my opinion) topic or just chat shit, I will.

Ultimately if you think you can make this place better, there's no limit to the new thread button!

There has always been a tendency for some to post multiple daily threads under the pretence of keeping the forums ticking over and getting people to engage.

Many of those people quickly turn into annoying little dervishes and apart from a handful of hangers-on most people just roll their eyes and don't bother contributing.

Some threads are started to educate and inform but the op is often locked into a particularly negative mindset and isn't up for an actual discussion.

Anyone with an opinion that isn't in tune with the op is told they are wrong or asked why they even contribute to a thread they have no experience of.

All of that boils down to people not wanting to post on many threads because they really don't want to play those mindgames anymore.

I've started hundreds of threads over the years and only ever had 3 that had more than 30 replies.

Two of those were removed as soon as they hit the 30 reply mark and neither were contentious or argumentative and were just forum fluff.

Compare that to some subjects that get completely out of hand and have to move to a second thread and I have to make the decision not to bother my arse anymore.

I feel you Rexy. When I was last on there were 175 comment threads popping off all over the place and nowadays it's not so commonplace.

I feel like it's the standard ebb and flow of a public forum.

Nothing can sustain a high level of intensity for a constant period of time. There always has to be a calm to balance it out.

Stay strong my brother, frenetic forum energy will return soon

"So...FAF?

Clickbait!

(But yes, actually. Since you ask.)

Not even this thread can stay serious. I am shocked and appalled and will make a thread about how childish you horny lot are!

Who said it was serious?

I mean it's a thread from you so of course it wasn't. But it attracted...the angry bears. That's their name now.

I’m pulling your leg "

Can we make it the shaft instead?

I think if anything, the thought provoking threads don't get that many replies. The ones that tend to break 3 figures are fairly easy ones where people can flirt with each other or the seriously contentious threads that have a wide gap in viewpoints

"The flashing thread yesterday, was a fairly serious discussion thread.

Very few of those that will likely complain about lack of variety actually posted in it. They contributed nothing to it. Some did.

It is definitely an issue on both sides.

I engaged on it because it is exactly the kind of old school thread that is interesting (to me). It did get taken down at some point though so something must have kicked off.

I think the OP reported it themselves to be taken down.

Yeah I remember seeing join in.

I think it is sad that happened in that case - I feel it was a good thread and OP responded well. I think she was just surprised that there were other view points.

It was the abuse, piss taking and general hostility that made me want it removed.

I enjoy respectful and reasonable debate. Not hurling insults and attacks on my character."

If I was unreasonable then I apologise. I do think your thread was a great example of something that is not completely incendiary but does have the potential to have differing view points. You started it off with a very reasonable question and I think that is a key factor in having a decent thread.

I can’t really blame people for not wanting to contribute much anymore.

When they see people getting jumped on for a difference of opinion or for using a word wrong it’s like a crime has been committed.

Their has been some great posts which has then been derailed by the same group of people which is a shame.

I tend to stay away from the serious stuff although I do enjoy reading it as your never to old to learn new things ..

I am of the opinion that if the quality of threads is of that much importance….. then get off your lazy derrières and start some

Sink or swim!!!

Some of the most serious have gotten zero replies… some of the most random have reached 175 really quickly….

Some…. Really can’t be arsed……

As a forumite of old, many moons ago, things have changed.

None of us have to participate but the constant lambasting of people and derailing of threads is getting worse.

Yes sometimes things need addressing but if you don’t have anything nice or helpful move on.

Many say forums are a good way to operate the block button and I totally agree but not necessarily for those that are asking the question but for the replies that are given

I see a lot of threads about club nights and pre drinks for club events. I mean three or four threads for the same club event. It's like everyone is trying to be an event host.

Also, I think people have realised you can't have thought provoking threads on fab anymore. As soon as someone reads an opinion different to theirs, it gradually falls into bitchyncomments and arguments and people get banned or a thread gets taken down.

People have to be prepared to put some effort into a thread. Threads with lazy ideas and OPs who don't reply or acknowledge posters don't get to 175. I watched for a good while before I joined last week and that's what I noticed fwiw.

Was there ever a golden age though? My own unscientific opinion is this is as good as it gets. I think the vibe post pandemic is way more chilled. This place used to be bloodbath regularly.

As to pleasing people, threads that please everyone will always be rare. There's a mix and it does vary a little over the week.

"There has always been a tendency for some to post multiple daily threads under the pretence of keeping the forums ticking over and getting people to engage.

"

Get your arse to bother more. You do good stuff.

Quality and Quantity are different metric. Some interesting discussions aren't long. And many long discussions can have a lot of filler content.

No I don't think so. The standard has always varied over time. But this forum format is archaic and I think that has an impact. That impact can be both a - or +.

It's a pretty small group of posters and a smaller group again that regularly start threads.

The standards are the same.

Hell the titles are the same.

In fact, OPs have just added numbers to originals and we are reaching #75 etc.

In 10 years, nothing much has changed. Which is both good and bad.

First time I was on this was about 2015 and I would have said the opposite. The clique has and will always be a thing, its inevitable. It's much more welcoming of newbies now. And the forum fights were a feature not a bug.

All over

I think recently it has changed. I previously had found the forums both informative and helpful as well entertaininh of fourse. Sadly there are some chatacters that are sometimes determined to 'sabotage' threads either by intentionally picking arguments (not opinions which is fine), srarting threafs they know will cause conflict and often disappear themselves or using redicule though again they often don't realise that it is them that appear rediculous tbh. There is also lots of repetition of threads and some that you thin 'what on earth' but then nobody is forced to follow those. As someone said though, sadly there are very few threads that stimulate the mind, create rational debate and inform. Itvis what it is, you have to take the good with the bad in an open forum like this as long as people respect one another and certainly stay away from any kind of abuse which sadly it does raise it's ugly had from time to time but the worst of it is usually picked up and dealt by mods
