I have always told my (now adult) sons that there is no shame in them having a cry. There is no need for men to bottle up their feelings - the suppression of upset could lead to other not so acceptable behaviour. I would rather see my sons cry it out than resort to physical violence etc. Since when are emotions only applicable to females?

"why do males, feel like crying makes them weak or lesser of a man."

My missus hates that expression. She feels men should cry more, although for the life of me I can't think why.

I told my 3yo that big boys don't cry and the wife hit the roof at me.

Tbh I don't even know why I think boys shouldn't cry, I can only guess it's what my dad used to tell me and it's stuck.

I can't remember the last time I cried. It was certainly longer than ten years ago.

Well, there was that bit in Saving Private Ryan where the guy was running up the beach and he was helping an injured guy and then a shell landed close by and they both fell over and the bloke picked up his friend and carried on only to look round and see he was dragging half a body up the beach leaving his entrails in the sand as he went.

That set me off big time.

"why do males, feel like crying makes them weak or lesser of a man."

Some males maybe...but real men will cry and admit to it as well...I know some very hard men, some good, some not so (in a nice way)..but one thing that seems to unite them all, they are NOT afraid of showing their emotions..

if blokes cry at close freinds or family funeral, or daughters wedding, etc fair enough, but when blokes start crying at xfactor sob stories, or watership down then he can no longer call himself a man........he can, however, cry at forrest gump

"Some males maybe...but real men will cry and admit to it as well.."

I am not a very empathetic person, I don't feel other people's pain at all, but it doesn't mean I don't care. It just doesn't move me enough to cry over it. I've always been that way, but it doesn't make me any less of a man for it.

Some MEN just don't cry. Accept it.

"why do males, feel like crying makes them weak or lesser of a man."

Interesting question - in many cases men show angry rather an upset/ sad behaviour. Culturally determined as even today there is the myth that real men don't cry.

A myth it is for I have seen a fair number of army guys in very sad circumstances.
