Apparently a cancer charity have suggested that a vagina now be called a “bonus hole” so not to offend non binary or trans people.
Is there a chance that this is going just a tiny bit too far or is it ok?
What do you think? |

Crikey...
Surely a vagina is a vagina that's it's anatomical name.

It was suggested as a term for artificial vaginas, as far as I understand.
Women born women have vaginas
And trans who have had surgery have bonus holes.
Women can get cervical cancer and trans women don't.
It's not been suggested that a woman born a woman calls her vagina 'bonus hole'
Was it suggested on April 1st ? |

I think it's sexist until they also suggest a 'bonus ball'.

Although no one is being asked to change what they call anything. |

I’ve just started to read an article about this and I’m pretty offended. I will withhold a full on rant incase people are then offended by me being offended. But how about we just carry on calling it a vagina as that’s what it is! If someone has transitioned and it’s been adjusted then perhaps give that residual of the adjustment a new name. |

Jeez, what next? You call yours what you want and I'll call mine what I want. If I call yours something you dont like, let me know and I'll call it by your preferred name and we'll all get along fine, understanding that people have preferences. Tell me what I should call mine and I'll call you an arsehole. |

In the glossary of terms for the charity it doesn’t mention artificial just “an alternative word for the vagina.”
Apparently they also suggested “front hole” |

No one is being asked to change what they call their vagina.
The charity just pointed out that it is best to ASK THOSE who are having treatment how they want to refer to parts of their body.... bonus hole or front hole were simply suggestions..
People can call it what they want.
This thread will just descend into knee jerkers screaming that they are being harmed , ignored or forced to change. I bet my front bottom it will! |

I don’t think they’re being targeted. It’s people trying to second guess what other people think the term should be. This isn’t trans people suggesting it |

Maybe, my take on it is it's being hyped by the far right to infer that 'real women' are losing because of trans people. So yeah, trans people are the actual target here. |

Funny thing is "bonus hole" seems very patronising, condescending, and almost as if it's a joke in the first place being used to make fun of trans women all in the name to pander and appear inclusive. |

I sometimes use the term bonus hole for myself, but not bothered by vagina either. Being asked my preference of language in a medical setting would be refreshing, which is what I think this clinic was trying to improve on. |

I'm really glad feel wonderfully, comfortable in your own bodies.
I'm sorry that you can't try to empathise with someone who has never felt comfortable in their own body, who has been repulsed and suicidal because the changes in their body goes against everything they feel they should be... I can imagine it's not easy, I can't imagine what it feels like for you (other than freeing I guess, in a way I'll never feel)...
Let me try and help....have you ever had to wear something that left you constantly aware of how uncomfortable or embarrassed you were? (That peach ruffley bridesmaid dress, the joke Laderhosen etc etc)...
Try and imagine that, but all the time, 24/7 and it's not an outfit, it's your own skin.
The charity suggested possible terms that could be used with trans men and non-binary persons while talking about or having a smear/cancer treatments.
While I don't like the term personally and it makes me feel even less comfortable with *down there*, being non binary and having days of immense gender dysphoria, I can completely understand why changing the language used helps some people.

The charity deals with cervical cancer... The suggestion of change of language is around trans people.
But they are AFAB so trans men and non binary persons.
Nothing to do with trans women at all. |

It’s more the choice of words “the bonus hole” almost has comedy overtones. At a very basic level it’s a crap phrase!

Oh like I said, I don't like it personally... I tend to go with *down there* and a vague gesture on days I'm struggling and perfectly fine with vagina on others.
But the trans gentleman above has commented on how he has used the term for himself in the past...
And sometimes the darkest of humour gets us through the bad times... |

Yeah let's give them a break.
Surely we can find someone else to vilify and make life harder for than it already is.
We can always rely on single Mothers to be a good target it's been a while.

Is this real? If so it’s really a step too far what should we call the lungs?
It’s a name of a body part if they named it a ‘bonus’ it sounds like people with one have achieved something more than others. |

Another non binary trans guy here!
None of us are asking medical professionals to change their language for all their patients. Generally speaking we just want to be asked for our preferred terms so we're not put through unnecessary and often traumatic dysphoria, especially at an already vulnerable time - ie when receiving medical treatment.
Additionally, I don't know a single trans person who would EVER ask a medical professional to call their genitals a "bonus hole". It's a term that's mostly used by people assigned female at birth who have vaginas, often comically or sometimes in sexual scenarios, and some really dislike it!!
Unsurprisingly, this misrepresented SUGGESTION has followed the same path as the "chest feeding" debacle where language meant to support trans men is being used as an excuse to abuse trans women |

Not at all not sure how on Earth anyone can see any offence in a sarcastic post.
And yes the whole world was a deliberate over exaggeration, but I admit after reading the following posts I made the wrong assumption based on the limited information in the original post. I’m all for anyone doing are being whatever the fuck they want to be I just draw the line at the rest of society having to change to suit those and the offended by everything brigade |

Bonus hole no matter the target audience sounds ridiculous in a clinical environment.
Like if someone said to me I was going to have a camera in my bonus hole I would think wtf? Just call it what it is |

Bluntly, you need to work on your comprehension skills or you're putting words into my mouth I didn't say.
I didn't say anyone who disagrees with the phrase is far right. What I said was this suggestion from 2020 is being hyped by the far right for the reason I cited above. |

We have reached the point where life is so ridiculous, and the overton window so detached from observable scientific reality that the suggested newspeak from strong advocates on one side of the debate is indistinguishable from a theoretical derogatory term thought up by the strong detractors on the other side.
The real world is effectively all Poe's Law at this stage. |

Bonus hole does sound a bit ridiculous... Like something from a game show.
It's a bit trivial.
But, it's not really my place and it's not really my problem
So who cares what I think
If you like bonus hole, good for you |
