What are the dog owner community going to do about this?
I feel unsafe. Even though I don’t work for Royal Mail. Something needs to be done immediately!!! |

There are more dogs, such as lockdown dogs, plus staff are encouraged/more inclined to report compared to the past.Unless it was serious/drew blood the postie like the bin man just brushed it off |

I actually think it's because a lot of dogs were bought during covid, these dogs didn't get the appropriate socialisation.
Even young dogs that were socialised got taught to stay away from people during covid.
My own placid dog became an arse after it and has continued to chase Amazon drivers down the drive. |

Indeed. Then mix that in with a large number of those people are clueless owners in general. |

Father is a postman & he’s been attacked a few times, primary reason number 1 he states is that the owners have no proper control over their dog.
The second thing he’s noticed is that a lot of owners are very lax about their dogs behaviours.
And my personal opinion, some owners are lazy & feckless and don’t take the time to train their dog properly to be around other dogs & people. |

This. But also some postmen and delivery drivers don't understand or respect they are on that dogs territory. Some barely respect they see on a humans territory. |

Are they being bitten by dogs allowed to go to the door when they postie is dropping off a parcel?
My dogs bark when anyone walks up my path, and they bark extra loud when my postie arrives as he's always talking loudly on his phone.
He doesn't deliver parcels though, just letters.
I don't allow my dogs to come to the door but they stand at the other end of the hallway, because they are nosy. |

Are the dogs loose in the gardens? |

There are a lot of valid points on here, the two biggest I feel are that the postman is 'invading' the dogs territory and the heat we have had. We can all get grumpy when it's hot.
Lax owner's are also a problem. |

There are more dogs now than ever. Every fucker has one so it stands to reason more attacks. Raising a dog is like raising a child. It takes time, patience and effort. Too many people have the "I wanted it so I bought it" mentality but don't understand the commitment. So sad that if a dog attacks it is destroyed. Bad dog owners deserve the "Ramsey Bolton" treatment. |

Correct. We see them in the countryside when they instantly let their dog off the lead the moment they get in a field,so they have no control over Fido if it chases/attacks livestock. They don't pick the shit up either so it can infect livestock with Neospora/Neospirosis,fatal in every case. |

Nope, one attacked him whilst out on a lead, another one came racing out the door at him whilst delivering a parcel.
The most recent one the dog went for his fingers as he was pushing the letter through the letter box.
Unsurprisingly it’s not the big dogs that are the problem (bar the Bully’s), it’s the smaller dogs which cause problems. |

The post office eventually refused to deliver to our previous neighbours because their dogs were so aggressive. If they were out or weren't prepared to come to the front gate to get their mail the postie passed by.
Mind you they rarely if ever walked them, fed them the same food they ate and just left them inside all day while at work |

As multiple other posters have said, the rise is because of lockdown dogs. Not the fault of the dogs themselves, of course; entirely down to people who couldn't even look after a cuddly toy getting a living, breathing, thinking, feeling animal. |

"...But also some postmen and delivery drivers don't understand or respect they are on that dogs territory. Some barely respect they see on a humans territory. "

It is not for the postal worker to bestow respect and subservience to a dog or any hostile pet. They are doing their job, they a providing a service. It's quite simple really: open the latch of the gate, walk up the path and insert letter/s through the letterbox and then walk out. It's not like they've startled the dog because the postal worker leapt over the fence with the cacophony of a brass band and laser light regalia in full swing.
The recipient of the letter has an address and a home. The home most likely will have a letterbox and therefore there is a reasonable expectation that mail of some sorts will be delivered regularly at some point.
There were almost 2,000 dog attacks on postal workers last year, increasing year on year. Royal Mail keeps a database for this. It's unreasonable to expect postal workers to keep a mental record of every property that may have a dog with questionable behaviour.
Fuck respect. Let them do their job. |

Their job is cramming the letterbox full of mail so it's bent creased ripped torn, and when it's raining walking about with it in their hand so when it's delivered it's absolutely piss wet through and falling apart, another few minutes it would be porridge.Thats when they can be arsed delivering it,they hold on to it here and deliver every couple of days. |

Because some Royal Mail staff forget their training, ignore dog warning signs and stick their hand all the way through the letterbox.
They have a little device to use for that (that look a bit like large tweezers) but of course have they actually been issued with them? Doubt it.
So yes, in most cases it’s the dogs being over protective/aggressive, but sometimes it is down to human lack of common sense, albeit far less common.
And I say this as someone whose family has a long history of working in Royal Mail (and as a former employee many moons ago) as well as being a multiple dog owner.

If my dogs ever bit a postie it would be my fault for not being in control of my dogs when someone comes to the house and that is my responsibility in line with the law. If I had dogs that I thought were liable to bite posties I’d make sure they didn’t get near enough to.
As an aside, my dogs would lick a postie to death or anyone else given half a chance |

Where I used to live the postman told me had been nipped on the back of his leg by a lose German Shepherd for the second time.
The Post Office only made one more delivery, a letter which said "In future collect your mail from the local Post Office. No more deliveries will be made to your house" |

"Perhaps posties should be allowed to carry a dog Taser device by law
Bit harsh
Not when a vicious dog is attacking a postman ..He has the right to defend himself surely"
It’s not every dog though is it, or every postie.
That’s a bit like saying we should all carry guns in case we come across a gunman in our daily life |

"On Royal Mail workers
Why are more dogs inclined to attack our brave postmen
What's going on here guys. It's all over the news"
Are we talking about a huge jump in the number of attacks?.. or a huge jump in reporting? |

We are talking a huge jump in attacks...
Give every postie a dog Taser. It's actually usually quite harmless and just stuns the dog long enough for the postie to flee |
