I just renewed mine last week because of an address change. I did it online and they used the photo from my previous license, which is definitely over two years old??????
Gonna have to check this out now, surely there must be something in place online to stop this occurring? |

"They send you a reminder
They only send you a reminder when the licence itself needs renewing. Not the photograph."
That is why the licence needs renewing. To keep the photograph updated. |

They do send a reminder just for the photo card runs out. My licence has got tears on it lol. I just 'filed' my reminder |

Are you just talking about the photo card ones or the paper ones as I still have my paper one, don't see the point in changing it and not had a reminder to either |

Yes they do send reminders just for change of photo on the card and yes it will cost you £20 if you do or £1000 if you don't. Pay your money or take your chances!! |

It is only relevant to the photo card ones |

"Still got paper one still valid "
Another with a copy of the Magna Carta sorry, paper licence! I say Magna Carta because it`s in such a state it looks like some historic document! People stare at it in disbelief when I hand it over! |

I was in the US many years ago and got pulled for speeding, the State Trooper had a look of incredulity on his face when I handed over my paper licence in 3 pieces, with Sellotape holding the fourth together.
He held it between thumb and fore finger like he was about to catch something from it! Didn't get a ticket though |

"Is this soemthing new, as i seem to remember the original photocard driving license didn't expire."
Like mentioned above because your appearance is likely to change over the course of 10 years, so your required to get it updated periodically and pay for the privilege. If it's just a change of address (If I remember correctly) they don't charge. |

Nope. If you have a passport that's less than 5 years old you can use that to update your photo I'd card online and they will use the photo on file for that. Sadly mine was 6 years old......grrrrrr |

"Mine doesn't expire until 2052
Think I'm ok "
Your not!!! The actual license runs out in 2052, your photo expires every 10 yrs and will need updating. The way to find out when it expires is to look at the photo on the card, their is a date hologram on the photo , that's the date it expires. |

It's actually not a hologram. The expiry date is on section 4b on the card. |

Yes 4b as well, but defiantly a hologram just below the photo, gives last 5 digits of licence number, tilt it and it then gives expire date of photo. |
