Done oulton park a few times on my bikes, hoping to do a few hottrax races this year around the uk on it too.
And the Nurburgring in my old M3, even dirty done a lap in it, scared the shit out of me in my own car! Ha ha

One of my regular jobs is shooting track days...great fun, apart from the fact that all the punters want to see is themselves in the car, which doesn't leave a lot of room for artistic license !
Does mean I get to have a go in a lot of the cars though. |

"I've done a Ferrari 355 at thruxton and a Lamborghini murcielago at a track I can't remember the name of, both where amazing! "
the pro drive track was very twisty with some floor stomping straights - just looking at thruxton vids online and they dont get past 115mph even though its a fast track..? |

I always seem to think they look like a bit of a waste of money, to be honest !!
If you want ptoper fun, bin off the supercars and do the rally school at Silverstone in Fiestas ! The photos are a lot better too. |

Doing a track day for me though was the opportunity to drive my dream car, a car I am never likely to own. That was the thrill. |

Fair enough, people seem to enjoy them and they rarely get complaints about the service provided. |

"Pro-Drives about the best of the tracks that run experience days...and they only use about a third of it !!"
yep - seemed short but it let you get the horses out
Id definitely end up in a tree rallying - though I bet you come out with great car control |

I just get bollocked by the instructors at the Rally School for standing too close to standing water...but that's where all the best shots are, sod the danger of aquaplaning, I'm insured for death in service

I took my car on a track day and had a 30min session with an instructor before taking her out on the track on my own and drove around the track with other participants.
Learned a few things about my car and how to get the most out of her. Also learned about the correct way in approaching a corner etc...
Great fun.

Done Donninton 4 times, 3 on a CBR600RR and once on my R1.
I thought I was a quick rider till I looked at my lap times on the R1 compared to Rosie, lorenzo and co, I was like a snail. nearly 28 seconds a lap slower.
Nurbergring once on the CBR and went round in 9min 27 seconds well chuffed I was, then did it again just last year on my BMW R1200GSA with the mrs on the back taking pics as we went round, a local lad showed us they way on his R1, best laugh I had in ages me trying to keep up with him with mrs on the rear.
Never done a car track day, never fancied it. |

I, m an ex motorbike racer and really enjoyed the thrill of riding / racing against other like minded nutters ( said with a cheeky grin on face ) ,
Each circuit has its good and bad bits but I think donnington gives the best for smooth but fast track time , cadwell and oulton are both more " technical " and are more of a challenge to master .
Anyone going on a track day ......listen to the instructor and you, ll learn more about car / bike control in a day than you would in a year on a public road ( being a motorist etc ) .
Have fun but stay safe , dont let the red mist descend too much as you, ll end up in the kitty litter gravel traps |

And if you're taking your wife's four week old Porsche Boxter on a track day, make sure you tell her beforehand as it's way easier than telling her after you've written it off...as happened to a bloke at Mallory Park a couple of years ago ! |

It was and it was...the Marshall who's worked the corner for over 20 years, told me he'd be coming off next lap, so I was all set up to get the images. Beautiful pictures of water arcing up out of tyre walls surrounded by bits of flying Porsche ! |

My current favourite curcuit is Anglsey, have done 5 track days on the bike there since it was reopened. Done a couple of track days at Oulton Park and Donnigton (including as a pillion after a day at Ron Haslams race school).
Did the Ring a few years back, enjoyed it but wouldn't go back as far too easy to end up throwing it down the road. |
