I have had long hair a few times in my life. And I’m growing it again. Just such a long process. And I’m struggling feeling attractive right now between haircuts. Anyway
Men, how do you survive long periods between haircuts? What do you do to get by |

Cut my hair!
I grew mine out into last year, back to Chin length and loved it! Only really cut it for work
If you've got a pic of what it looked.like when you liked it, stick it on the fridge and remind yourself it's worth the wait!
And get used to brushing it back for the next 6 months! |

When it’s long enough to do protective styles I’ll still be doing threads |

Remind me to show my lockdown hair sometime; I was like Lion-o (80s cultural reference - look it up!). I'll go back there one day as I really liked it, and hopefully before the next global pandemic. |

My hair is the longest its ever been.
Enough so its inbetween my collar bone level and armpit level/shoulder blade length.
If i let it grow this year it will be armpit/shoulder length
It can be pony tailed or plaited up
I will admit ive had a few strands of hair in the mouth when eating and drinking. |

So I am sorry that I cannot be of assistance |

I've got a few tips.
Firstly it'll depend on how long you want your hair to be.
But if you’re trying to grow it out and fast the best way to do it is protective hairs styles. I would suggest to get cornrows as they are close to your scalp they increase blood flow which is critical when growing hair. Well depending on how long your hair is I would say 8 cornrows to start off with then reduce the number to like 6 as your hair grows longer. Obviously since your hair isn’t that long I would say not to worry too much about the length at the back (hang time) but just trust the process.
I would say to keep them in for 3 close to 4 weeks at a time to have the best results. Drink lots of water and use essential oils if you need you can take supplements like biotin they help with hair growth. As your hair gets to your desired length you can now branch off into your more favoured styles.
I hope this helps x |

This is great stuff.
I had my hair long only about 2 years ago so I am good for managing as soon as I can get protective styles in. And I can do a few myself which is nice.
I have been using castor oil which works a treat. And shape ups and keeping my beard quite low so I don’t look too terrible. It’s a process but I get impatient a lot. Hence why I’ve not grown it again in two years. |

I’ve had a few hairstyles over the years (massive understatement) and have grown it over shoulder length twice.
The last time was easy… lockdown.
Caps are good. I was also a big fan of wearing Alice bands but that does definitely require a thick skin if you have friends like mine.
Whenever I get nostalgic about my long hair these days I remember what a fucking massive ball ache it is to look after and how bloody hot it can be in the summer.
Long hair is effort… fair play to all the long haired types |

I’ve skinned mine for 20+ years, there have been times when I’ve thought/ tried to grow it, but I get a month in and start looking homeless or like action man ( 80’s/90’s to be specific ) so it just comes off.

"I find a good conditioner (not necessarily an expensive one, mind, some of the ones that suit me best were cheap) is a big help in keeping things looking tidy"
For sure.
I don't know how well it'll apply to the OP (or at least the products he'll use are different) but maintaining good condition in mine has looked like oil on the ends (2-3 drops of argan oil rubbed on hands and distributed - but I have wavy fine hair, argan probably isn't rich enough) and leave in conditioner on mid lengths (remnants on top of the ends) immediately after I wash my hair. And some sort of slip product (argan oil, detangling product) for when I brush my hair out.
(Plus protective styles, but he's said that and mine will look very different to his - lazy white girl protective style is a loose bun ) |

I'm not a man but I decided to go super short 6yrs ago, for convenience, and I've kept it that way. I had two "styles" when short but I like and suit this one best. It does mean going to the hairdressers every 4-5wks instead of 6-8wks though, because as soon as it gets to a certain length (like now), the fringe bit flops forward and the bit around my ears looks stupid.
Our son went from super long with undercut to skinhead to now having the fashionable fade back and sides and curly/messy on top with floppy fringe. He used hats to get through the various odd moments. |

I can generally get away with leaving it over a month between haircuts before it becomes and unmanageable bird's nest, the problem I ave is when they cut it way too short and I have to wait a couple of weeks for it to grow back to a decent length... A period I'm currently in |
