"an ex said to me that they used me as a sex toy. The jury is still out whether that's an insult or compliment.
I read that as Sex Tory.
No wonder you were worried.
"
that one isn't open to interpretation. |

"Depends in what context but personally i find it an insult to be referred to inanimate object "
She would appear in my life for sex and then ignore me until she felt that way again. She said she meant it as a compliment but its 50-50 at best. |

I think you got off lightly there.
An ex said to me:
You are a fucking dickhead, you were never serious about us. That's it I'm done.
(Because I didn't want to move in with her after 3 months)
5 minutes later
Maybe if you fucked me like you used to I wouldn't mind.
15 minutes later.
Are you coming over Friday?
. At least your ex was consistent. |

That bit of context makes me feel it’s an insult. If you both absolutely want a detached fwb type relationship, great. Then you really are just there for each other’s occasional pleasure.
But to treat a person like that when it’s not what you both want is rather demeaning. |

"How did you take it?
I laughed. It's a bit stabby but ambiguous enough to deny it is an insult."
Like the guy who said to me a few weeks ago
"I like your style. You must stick out like a sore thumb round here"

I laughed. A woman sat next to me on the bus yesterday and proceeded to give me 'free' advice on losing weight. Then looked at me and said
"If I were you I wouldn't bother" before getting off .
I laughed at that too |

If the phrases such as "being used" or "toy with me" make you tingle then I guess yes.. complimentary comment.
If she knew they don't then it could feel like being put down, reduced to that.
It's all in your head in the end - depending how you feel about yourself too.
Let's not focus on her intention too much. It's what you will make of it. She is an ex after all.

I just found it funny. I love conversation like that on a sort of Victoria Wood comedy way. |
