Whatever you weigh don't focus on it too much.

I was weighed at my rheumatology appointment this morning and weigh 112.6kg.

Last Christmas I was 120kg.

It's going down, which is all I'm concerned about.

Just think of it as little battles. Some weeks you’ll win and others you’ll lose. I’m five stone lighter than I was 2017. It’s exercise, diet and willpower.

Just take it slowly. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Allow some cheat days with your diet. If you’re doing exercise build up gradually. Weigh yourself perhaps weekly/monthly at same time and place in your home.

Don’t rush the weight loss it’s better to be a gradual process.

Good luck with the weigh in.

I'm another one jumping on to say - especially as someone with physical disabilities (I have ME/EDS) all the research points to bariatric surgery being the best chance of losing and then keeping weight off.

You should be able to request a referral from the GP (even without an appointment) but I'd ring and check with the receptionist...

A gp can't refuse a reasonable request for a referral to a specialist team.

In the UK for bariatric surgery you need a BMI of over 40 or 35 with co-morbidities (such as diabetes etc)

There wasn't any funding in my area, so I paid privately and went abroad.

I chose Lithuania after a lot of research (the surgeon is registered with GMC, being part of Europe they have certain health care standards to meet etc).

You can have some issues with GPs being arsy about vitamin B12 injections etc but for the most part, they accept that you have the right to chose to step off and on the public/private pathways.

I could go on for ages but if anyone wants to know more drop me a message

I'm also not sure why the 'be your own person and don't do what others do' was necessary (especially when far more people 'diet' or 'eat better' than ever undertake bariatric surgery.)

Anyway. Congratulations on your loss

Just don't be too downhearted with a little loss (or even a gain)....

Even given my bypass I have weeks where I've 'put on' and weeks where I have lost, but overall over the last 2 years it's been a curve downwards... It's so hard to see that at the time (and it's only looking back over the last two years I can actually see what I've done), just remember it's the long term not your week to week that matters.

But learning not to beat yourself up over your food intake or your scales not showing what you'd like, that's the hardest bit.

I wish you all the luck and support in the world

I've just read your first part of the OP and I want to say I have been in a similar situation. I have always been obese but gained a lot more weight when I had severe post natal depression.

Anyway I was finally ready to start dieting in March and I've managed to make it a way of life. If I want something I have it and I just adjust my meals for the rest of the week. I have lost 3 stone doing it this way and actually have inspired my family and friends too. I do go to a group to get weighed in but it's purely for the discipline side rather than the diet that I am doing.

I am strict on my bread intake as I know that's a weakness for me. I have home cooked meals packed full of fresh ingredients every day. If you like chicken I really recommend the chicken skewers from Iceland there are loads of flavors to choose from and they are so low fat. Pinch of nom do some lovely cook books as do two chubby cubs

Good luck with your journey

Try to take the pressure off yourself and think of how fabulous you are a few stone here or there does not detract from your beauty.

Only consider weight loss if your health is at risk otherwise enjoy every moment in this short life.

I'm clinically obese, it's not to do with how i look, i'm so obese that i struggle to keep up with my grandchildren, i want to be around for my grandchildren and i want to be able to keep up with them. Nothing to do with how i look.

I have to say that i'm saddened by comments like that and i've had loads of private messages saying the same things, always from men !

Encourage me, give me tips, that's what i want

Thank you to everyone that does support me, given me tips and encouragement .... it means a great deal to me

As a gal trying to be better, healthier, lose weight, I've got ya!! I've done 2 things in the last 5 months that's helped me lose 1 stone. Cut down on pop, 1 bottle 2 litres that I make last me the week instead 2 litres every day and going for 5 walks in the month. 5 5 min walks, I shit myself but the encouragement I get here is amazing, so what's the phrase

Pay it forward

I get encouraged I'm passing it on

Best way is to learn how to properly eat. Biggest mistake we do as humans is shoving everything on one plate and not giving the organism time to metabolise the intake. Try and not mix carbs, fats, protein, etc on one plate. Try to reduce to two of them, cut off sugars and limit the intake of carbs. I lost 2,5 stones in less than two months only by cutting on those above, adapted a light form of keto and walked a minimum of 10k steps a day. Still keeping in the 80kg range. Exercising is the slow and steady way to go.

Thanks for the advice however it simply wouldn't work for me. I like a simple life and simple meals. I'm eating healthier, cut out most choc, cake etc and eating more fruit, yogurt. It's working so i'm pleased. There's no way i'd continue doing it if i had to keep different foods apart, where do you find the time for it ?

I can't walk far at all, can't exercise much due to chronic pain, not caused by my weight, if i do a 15 min walk once a week while holding onto my grandchilds pushchair then i'm thrilled with myself (if i do that though then i do have to increase my pain meds and struggle for days after).

Thank you

So i am receiving lovely advice and support on here and by message except from a bunch of guys who like to tell me fat women are beautiful, it's healthy to be fat, they often get abusive if i don't fall into their bed straight away, then there's the guys who want to give me a workout (sex i presume), or want to phone me with their advice. Plus any number of variations on these.

Please stop it and please stop being abusive to me.

Weight gain is a common side effect of the steroids. You will find when you come off them, the weight will fall off. Remain positive.

I had a steroid injection a few weeks ago (one won't cause weight gain) and I'm feeling the benefits of it which is helping me to move easier and feel more positive.

That's helping me focus on my diet; which is quite restricted because of IBS and intolerances.

I think half the battle with weight loss is in your head.

When your clothes start to feel loose you'll feel much more positive x

Oh yes, eat less, exercise etc but they are far more concerned with getting rid of the chest infection that's causing the lung and heart problems. However the hunger caused by the steriods takes over everything. I can't exercise much anyway and with a lung and heart problem any movement causes more breathlessness. So for the moment getting the infection sorted is all the docs are bothered about.

Right back where i started

I'm glad i lost a little bit of weight at first otherwise i'd have put weight on !

I am still eating healthier which i'm pleased about.

However i'm not exercising, i'm to ill and breathless and i'm bloated with fluid hence i've put weight on. High dose steriods are causing it.

I have a chest infection (they think) that's obviously making my lungs work extra hard and also causing problems with my heart. Once i'm on the mend i think the weight loss will continue.

I feel sad because i was so motivated and had so much encouragement here.

Paramount is taking care of your health & as a consequence of doing so you will feel the benefits.

A healthy diet, active life and positive mental outlook will make the difference.

It probably sounds like total bollocks from a guy that has his head up his arse and you are right.

Take each day as a gift, each tomorrow as an unwritten promise and yesterday as the rocky road upon which you have travelled.

You are not alone & through the moments of darkness and despair grasp the hand that is offered.
