A victim.
I'll tell you what really gets my goat though.
When she came out with the allegations that she was a victim of domestic abuse, nobody questioned it, everyobe believed her. Not one person, for one minute made any comment about themboth being as bad as each other or perhaps she could have bern in any way responsible for the way he behaved or anything. Basically, it was all his fault and he was a bad man.
Then, when they had the trial last year and the truth came out..
Has the situation reversed? No.
Even though she was found, by a jury, in a court of law, to be the abuser, far too many people can't actually bring themselves to accept that women can be abusers and that he must have done something etc etc etc.
I've been a victim of domestic abuse and this sort of reaction by society really pisses me off.
We hear about resources and services gor women who are victims but not even so much as acknowledgement by some that men can be victims.
We still have a long way to go.
For me, Depp is a hero in as much as he was prepared to go public with his trial and stand up and say, yes, I, Johnny Depp am a victim of domestic abuse.
Not just for him, but for all those other men who don't come forward through fear of being laughed at or ridiculed. |
