So I'm having a little adventure for the last weekend of my 30s to Derby and Leeds. I have some exciting plans already but I want to make the most of an extra night away.
What should I do in these places, where should I visit? |

"Dear Odyssean Sprite, bypass these pedestrian abodes and let gravity take its course... towards ye olde London Towne. "
I'm doing that in September.
To think we almost used to be neighbours (kinda) |

I used to get d*unk and go shopping trolley surfing with a girl in Leeds.
25 years ago now, not sure I'd recommend it now. Or then in all honesty.
If you meet a cute blonde called Louise: d*unk, face down arse up - in a shopping trolley - tell her I said hi. |

"In Derby: the Vic Inn, the Crompton Tavern, the Dolphin, the Flowerpot and the Blessington Carriage.
Wait, those are all pubs. I spent all of my time in Derby in pubs. Maybe ask someone else.
"
You do have good taste in bars usually to be fair.
I don't want to be in them alone though.
Maybe save them for another time x |

"Not Derby. Nottingham isn't too far from Derby and is far nicer for a wander.:D
It depends what time of year really. "
I have plans in Derby but I thought about Nottingham on the way. I'm going in July. |

Matlock and Buxton aren't too far from Derby. Both are beautiful. I love Bakewell so much - if you're driving it's a fantastic drive out. I'm also not far from Derby. So I'm going to piggyback on Intrigued's idea. |

Honestly, avoid Derby unless you are into the attic club. There’s an intu shopping centre that’s about it. There’s much nicer places in Derbyshire like Ashbourne , Dovedale etc but the city is dull |

Derby’s a really nice place to live but it’s short on visitor attractions. As Meli suggested, Nottingham’s a lot nicer for a tourist wander. You’d enjoy shopping around Hockley and the Lace Market.
Leeds is pretty cool these days. Good cafés, bars and restaurants.
If the weather’s good on your way between the two, Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a great place for a walk. |

I've had lots of avoid Derby advice from friends too but I'm a stubborn one so I definitely need to be there the Friday night. Won't be hanging round long though after and I'm thinking Nottingham is the place to be the day before. |

I like the sound of the Sculpture Park, definitely adding that to my list. |

So what happened to Derby? I lived there in the late ’90s and it was a great little city. Vibrant arts scene, really strong for music, busy university, good pubs, nice independent shops … |

Definitely much more to see and do in Nottingham. The lace market, castle and hockley areas are good. I think there’s still a big indie market in the square too. I’m home for another week , pm If you want a coffee or mini tour |

So a little mini social event on Thursday 6th July? Somewhere near Nottingham?
@Cede if that's too far, we can do drinks on my way back from Leeds on 8th or 9th |

Pencil us in.
Nottingham is a beautiful city.
I think a weekend is needed to fully explore but it's perfect for a mini social.
