It does depend how well you know someone.
For me I don't mind all general pet names from new guys but I do love when someone I've known awhile comes up with a pet name specific to me can't be forced and I can see right through ones that are obviously used on all girls such as "my dream" but I wouldn't like someone I just met to try and be overly familiar so best stick with sweetie, hun, darlin, or sexy |

"dont londoners use "treacle" "
Me and hubby are both from East London, he uses "treacle" with women, when I asked why he said
'Cos she is sweet and a bit thick'
He now gets a slap when he calls me treacle

It really depends who I'm talking too and where. I had a friend I called kitten which was very sexual but also appropriate. I don't call people pet names on here until I'm gonna meet them, and it's usually a role thing.......

I find using someone's name til I know them better works fine!
After that it depends on the person!
Some don't mind Hun, some sexy, some gorgeous - and one responds quite well to 'bitch tits' !! |

why did u call her kitten" a couple of reasons, she used to purr and knead my leg with her nails when she was happy, she liked it when I griped her at the back of the neck........a few other reasons.
Symbolism you see....... |

"I should be thankful I wasn't born in Derbys. or Notts. as they call everyone 'me duck'. I think it makes them sound like rednecks. "
If you sit on a mid-morning bus in Leicester and listen to two old women quack at each other, you start to understand why 'duck' started. |

I think according to popular music culture the acceptable modern terms are:
Biatch
Ho
Shorty
Baby moma
Bizzle |

I can honestly say, none of the above bother me in the slightest. So many of those words are just indicative of regions and upbringings, they are seldom used to patronize so I'm never offended by them
.... unless of course I despise the person saying it lol! |

"Of course here in Wales people commonly name women "lovely" :
"Hello, lovely, fancy a shag or a fight?"
"
Get in a lot of fights do you petal?
I use lots of terms of endearment...petal, flower, love, sweetcheeks, darlin', babe - for men or women
My dearest friend's husband calls me pussycat...when I asked him why he said it was because I toyed with my prey before I killed it |

If anyone called Ju hun or babe they are liable to a swift kick in the bollocks.
I am guilty of using treacle, love and sweetheart when talking to women I don't know. If I know them I always use their names. |

My former housemate used to get 'Whatsername' or 'you', or sometimes a name similar to hers, but never actually her name. Now it's usually 'Alice', which also isn't her name. My ex-girlfriend now gets called 'Kevin's wife'. My sister is 'yo' and her daughter is 'that one'. |

I refrain from the 'hun', have you noticed how many womens profiles state that they hate being called 'hun, hunni' and all the many other variations? I find their name usually works best from the outset |

Do men mind terms of endearment ? Or is it mainly women then ? As I said in a previous post, pet names don't worry me in the slightest, I see them for what they are intended as, a term of 'endearment'. |

I just don't get it, pet names are local words used as terms of endearment, they are not used with the intention to offend, and we all use them at some point. Don't get why people get so tetchy |
