After imposing a hosepipe ban in Kent the Water Board are actually blaming the water shortage on people working from home. And Tom thought it was Brexit. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news |

Yep the majority of what goes into a house ends up going back out in the drain so perhaps , just perhaps it's their clean and dirty networks that are the cause.....
But as with every other thing in this country it's easier to blame the consumer |

Every time I get some bollocks from Severn Trent about conserving water I send them the latest picture of a continuous water leak that they have failed to fix for the last 30 years… |

Luckily they will keep the rivers topped up with raw sewage at no extra charge. Theyve done such a brilliant job over the last 20 years. Its definitely made a huge difference rolling out all those water meters. Really has improved their quality of service and management of demand. |

"After imposing a hosepipe ban in Kent the Water Board are actually blaming the water shortage on people working from home.
Why do people use more water working from home ? More cups of tea ?"
Cos they look at the piles of dirty stuff for much longer and it says "clean me"? |

How many times a day do people flush the toilet while they work from home, to cause a drought?
Or are they bathing at lunch or watering the garden when they should be working?
Maybe they're having thousands of cups of tea and coffee |

Surely you are using the same amount of water no matter where you work? Its not like you start having extra showers because you are at home, if anything less because nobody needs to see your undone hair |

Surely the WFH people would otherwise have been making tea, flushing the loo and suchlike in an office previously, thus still using water? Just in a different location, presumably still in the jurisdiction of South East water? |

"Maybe the fact that the government have failed to increase reservoirs in the last 30 years?!"
Exactly...... or build new ones!. They're throwing up new buildings here there and everywhere and they need to get water from somewhere.... or blame someone else for their extremely poor service, taking as much money as they can without fixing water leaks... it's ot.just down your neck of the woods, it's nearly as bad up here! |

"Lack of rainfall....
How can they use that as an excuse, we get no rain in UAE, desalinate it all from the sea and it’s dirt cheap 0.7pence per gallon "
Desalinated water is not suitable for all potable uses and is potentially harmful to some age groups. You know as well as I do that most people in the UAE make extensive use of bottled water from the shops. |

See above. It's not the answer to everything. It's not suitable for a range of things, including making up infant formula and it's also not suitable for people with certain kinds of medical condition linked to electrolyte imbalance (as a sole source of water) and it tastes like utter shite. |

On a more serious note, unless you work in a different water board region than you live, surely it doesn’t matter where you make your cup of tea or use the loo?
The difference in wfh for me is that I am now paying the (rising) cost of energy and utilities to do my job, whereas before, the job paid it.
I am close to saying fuck it, I’ll come back to the office, find me a desk! |

"Lack of rainfall...."
Totally this and relying on Victorian infrastructure.
People breeding like rabbits and so greater consumption. Unsustainable socialist expectations. Those blaming utility companies for not investing in infrastructure but also bitching when their pension (major dependant on dividends from said utility co.) does not yield what they want.
Those are the others |

Why is Thames water in 40bill debt? Yet the share holders have been paid millions. However, bills need to go up to pay for improvements?
They've been lining their own pockets and now it's falling like a deck of cards the CEO suddenly resigns; but no worry will probably get another job paying £1mill a year for abject failure. And the tax payer will step in and bail it out. |

Ever since Thames Waters inception, it has taken £60 Billon in Public subsidy and paid out £66 Billion to it's shareholders. That dosn't include the money it has actually been charging it's customers in all that time. As we all know it, like most other utility companies has actually invested fuck all in it's actual core business. Railways, the same. Gas, the same. Electricity, the same. Post office, the same.
The only reason that BT are actually rolling out full fibre broadband is because smaller companies are doing it better and faster than they are. |
