"Two Ashes threads got too big, who would have thought it?
I’m still very disappointed after our defeat at Edgbaston but I still think we will regain the Ashes,.
Do you believe? "
Whilst I'm disappointed we lost, I'd rather lose in a 5 day thriller with a result in the last 10 overs than the old way of having to follow on, traditional batting collapse and the tourists only battling for 30 minutes to secure the victory. Bring it on I say, I expect Australia will retain the ashes but it will be 6 weeks of exciting cricket for a change.

Jeez our attack looks undercooked.
Jimmy is a rhythm bowler who needs overs in his legs and his injury r*bbed him of that. Broad thrives when the crowd is boisterous and you won’t get that at Lords. Tongue bowled some Jaffas, Robinson is a trundler who bowls the occasional Jaffa and as much as I like/admire Ben Stokes his fitness is a major concern. |

A great finish to the match with serious drama that sets it up perfectly for the next three tests.
I really thought Stokes was going to do it again but unfortunately he came up just short. Also, I wish England fans would stop moaning about the Bairstow dismissal, it was pure naivety on his part and has only himself to blame. |

Have England ever bowled under arm off the last ball of an ODI? Or have a batsman take the field with an aluminium bat? Or use sandpaper to alter the condition of the ball? How long had that been going on before it was caught on camera?
I admire the winning mentality of Aussies teams but they blur the lines of what is within the rules or the spirit of the game far too many times.

Carey threw the ball in one swift motion before Bairstow even left his crease. The umpire never called over and was therefore well in the rules of the game. If it happened to an India player, I would be fuming at how stupid they were to leave their crease! |

I don't think the umpire helped by passing a cap back to the bowler. This signifies the end of an kver. YJB should take some blame but in the spirit if the game, they could have warned YJB and said next time I'll run you out.
Similar contentious goal was scored between Leeds and Aston Villa a few years back. The manager of Leeds ordered his players to let villa score an equaliser. |

Managed to grab spare tickets for Saturday which wasn't the best in terms of action.
Australia were the better team in my opinion, but to win using dark arts has left a bitter taste regardless of the rules.
Hopefully we bring in Wood if for nothing else his speed and we can mankad a few of them |

I’m more disappointed in the England team than the Aussies at this point to be fair. We can’t seem to shake ourselves out of this Bazball attitude that has steamrollered over lesser cricketing nations.
The Aussies were always going to be tougher nuts to crack and coming in as a one trick pony trying to smash everything out of sight was always likely to be exposed against better opposition. The most disappointing thing is that actually it wouldn’t have needed a massive reset to be 2-0 up. Nobody’s advocating going back to push and prod 80s run rates but you can score quite freely in test cricket without the need to hit a boundary every over. England could still play attacking, positive cricket and go along at a good zip without the need to play the ball in the air. .We seem to have lost the ability to play the situation. Bill Bellicheck of the New England Patriots is fond of talking about situational football. All it really is is the ability to adapt to the moment, not play the same way every moment and every game.
Just chalking it up to experience and saying ah well that’s how we play is fine until the results start going consistently against you. If England play with the same attitude over the next 3 tests this could, worst case scenario be a whitewash, because Australia won’t hesitate to go to the short-ball and load the boundaries knowing England will fall for it.
Having said all that, I am a massive fan of Mccullum and Stokes and what they’ve done for English cricket since taking in their respective roles but at the end of the day Ashes cricket is how England captains and coaches are remembered. Nobody remembers Michael Vaughan as the captain of the victorious touring side in the West Indies in 2004. He is , and always will be the captain who won the Ashes in that memorable 2005 series. Similarly Alastair Cook will (apart from his ridiculous run scoring) be remembered as the captain that led England in Australia in 2011. Stokes man management skills by all accounts are second to none and we’ve seen what he can do with the bat on a personal level but it would be such a shame if he were to be remembered as the captain that bullied other nations but couldn’t adapt to Ashes cricket. Here’s hoping for a subtle strategy change this week at Headingly. |

Well done to England and especially Woakes and Wood. They both came in and gave England a completely different dimension and definitely deserve to carry on in the next test. Bring Foakes in for Bairstow and they have a real chance of turning this around! |
