Cyclists killed in hit and run

Terrible news that a couple out riding this afternoon were knocked off with such ferocity that they were killed. Driver abandoned the vehicle and ran off.

Must admit, wife and I were out this afternoon doing nothing more than going to the shops and were treated to dogs abuse fom one driver. Our crime, I allowed my wife to overtake me which prevented him overtaking her and delayed his journey for..... Oh, all of about one second.

I really hope that this parliamentary inquiry that started last week is going to come up with some meaningful changes to make cycling safer. I am a car driver first and foremost but a recreational cyclist who really wants to try and cut down my fuel usage and improve my personal health - but not at the cost of getting wiped out by an impatient car driver.

whilst it is terrible news about the cyclists that got killed i cant see how much a parliamentary inquiry is going to affect things much.

unfortunately we live in a world where some people only look out for themselves and believe they can treat people like shit because they can

Horrible,

Road rage scares me, I had a guy screaming and giving me abusive hand signals last week, all because i let someone out of a side road and slowed him down, the guy behind sounded his horn to get me to look in my mirror at him then started with the abuse.

I blew him a kiss and give him a wave. Which of course didnt help his mood lol.

My heart goes out to the families of the people killed, so unnecessary.

happens far too much ..I am a cyclist who was taken out by a hit and run driver about 7 months ago and quite frankly the police were not in the slightest bit interested. About 350-400 cyclists are ran over every week by motorists so I think the police just find it all abit of a chore !

A passerby later gave me the registration plate of the car about 15 minutes later and i tried to text myself the registration plate number .. i was still shaking that much 15 minutes later that I couldnt send the text message .. quite understand how your son went with that as you are in so much shock you cant think clearly

The Times is pushing for either completely segregated cycle lanes or a 20 mph speed limit.

Other measures are wider, non segregated cycle lanes so that motor vehicles have to slow down and overtake as they would another car.

The vulnerability issue is that cars pass too fast and too close to cyclists with no understanding of their vulnerability to potholes, grids, vehicle slipstream etc etc
