That is an an achievement! Well done!
A former partner of mine was *obsessed* with being mortgage free, to the detriment of everything. Any money left after bills/food went into savings - spending anything that she deemed ‘frivolous’ resulted in an argument.
Like all things in life, there’s a balance to be struck between enjoying life and saving for a rainy day.

Was debt and mortgage free a couple of years ago but still don't to seem to have any money. Admittedly do treat the kids more, buy things that want rather than need and eat out, only work 30 hours and generally feel better for it.

Congratulations OP! Enjoy yourself, you deserve it! I cleared my credit card last year and not used it again and paid off my bit of debt four months ago. Very proud of myself too  x |

The hard work paid off.
Never a lender or borrower be used to be my old Grandads sentiments. Not so easy these days of course.
Best thing I did was use any surplus money I earnt to clear the mortgage early.
Now the only debt I incur is when I use a credit card (as I get cash back on all transactions) but clear it down to zero monthly so there’s no interest to pay. |
