Anything interesting about your ancestry, way back in time? Did you always know or are you into researching your family's history.

Somewhere near here

I have my family tree going back to late 1600 early 1700, they were poor. Sadly no rich folk with castles or any sort of royalty, just poor.

However I did find a house family lived in in the 1700s, such a beautiful house full of character

Still great though to make those connections with the past

My family name is a city in Sweden. My ancestors sailed up the river Ouse and settled near Selby.

Which life are we talking about? Cos a former one I may have been the Dalai Lama, whilst in another I may have been a butterfly.

I get confused.

Yes. My brother had his DNA tested for a research project at the University of York.

"My brother had his DNA tested for a research project at the University of York. "

That's unusual, normally on this site it's Sydney Uni.

Yeah, a uncle set about filling in the family history maybe 20 years back. Some real bad 'uns over the ages. Not to be crossed

They think we originally landed in Ireland as recusants, thanks to Henry and his reformation.

I can go back 450 years on my family tree! Only cos my grandad kept a lot of old family stuff in a trunk and that got passed down to my dad. There’s an old coat of arms and all sorts of cool stuff but I don’t actually know what most of it is or what it means.

I've done a lot. Back as far as 1500,s on one branch. It's a lot easier when you have an unusual surname though. Absolutely fascinating stuff.

Yes I still have the print out he did somewhere! Had a very unusual maiden name made it easier x

I've just signed up to Discover Me after a notification from my GP asking if I'd like to take part in a DNA study. I'd imagine there will be many of these offers rolled out

"Anyone else into their ancestry "

Apparently according to someone who once knocked on our front door I'm distantly related to a couple called Adam & Eve.

I asked them how they could possibly know that and they then started talking bollocks about some imaginary sky fairy so I shut the door and have never seen them again.

Do you think they were from that 'Ancestry' thing you see advertised on Facey and were just trying to sell me something?

A
