Monthly STI test reminder!

After last months test reminder, I thought I’d do another!
As we’re in a group of people that had more sex than others with different partners, we should have regular tests, it’s very much part of the ethical bit of enm!
A quick google will bring you to your free service on the NHS. It’s free it’s easy, what’s not to love
Let’s be the change we wish to happen.
Post below when you’ve ordered!
Some areas are different but there will be some provision! I believe free testing is every three months! I’ve got a few months to wait till my next test! |

Yay! Love this. My additional lancets arrived yesterday; I'm looking forward to those delightful pricks.
Top Tip - if you really struggle getting blood and are following all the tips - text them asking for extra lancets and they'll send them. Well that's true with SH:24 not sure about others. |

I'll have to try this, trying to get blood out of me is a nightmare even with the nurse nevermind trying to do it myself at home. Get about 3 drops per lancet and dry up |

Thank for the reminder. So easy with the free postal kits in my area there's really no excuse. They only have a certain number a day though so you can be trying several days to get one sent which I always think is odd |

"Thanks for the reminder...always test after a meet"
You’re better off testing on a 3 month cycle. Testing just after a meet can mean the test misses things due to the incubation period of viruses etc |

I hate this term generally but... it really is a game changer. I thought I'd message and ask and they were so lovely! Probably bemused.
As you already know - it's all about the ethical, responsible hot person summer. |

Oh that's a good idea, I didn't know that. The last time I did a home blood test, 3 finger tips were bruised due to me trying to get blood out.

Oh I took photos of my poor bruised fingers - one I can still see the prick in! They looked awful. Yes, request away! It's a necessary evil and now I know they'll send additional I'm making sure I tell people so it doesn't put them off. |

We have just done ours but it's always a great reminder to look after yoursleve and others.
We have ours in our Google calendar to remind us to order every 3 months.
It's always a good thing to spread the word when meeting new friends that a postal service is available in most areas in England. |

Regarding finger prick tests.
Becky could never get enough blood out.
Top tips for you.
1/ Warm your hands, either by keeping them tucked in somewhere or warming in warm water, try after a shower.
2/ the lancets are designed to give the right penetration but if used tentatively can sometimes not penetrate enough. When applying the lancet don’t give a quick push and pull away again. Push against skin firmly and hold there while it fires.
3/ massage the whole hand down to the finger tip, it will encourage blood flow, squeezing just the finger will block supply and cause a quick heal.
We have no issues with Becky now, she’s a little bleeder.. |

"Don't forget to test throats too
I get a throat swap in my kit!
I don't get throat swap, do you use private company"
I have used fettle before which was about £20 but I also do the clinic drop in and they test everything |

Thanks, I do it on a 3 month cycle anyway but I prefer to be doubly safe! |

I've always done 1 and 3 but never 2. I'm going to try it now. With a mild hangover.
Thank you for the tips, they're great to read! |

I’m hoping it’s one of those things that get easier with practice. |

"All clear as of 1st June. Postal kits are just so easy."
Postal kits are not available everywhere, nor for every age group. Sexual health clinic availability has been pared back so very much in some areas (like ours) so as to make it pretty much impossible to get an appointment. The days of walking in/queuing are gone. Our local sexual health service is pretty much aimed only at the U25s and what's left is almost impossible for anyone who works. You have to obtain an appointment (only available 10-4 weekdays) by phoning up a number that is constantly engaged. If you are lucky enough to get through, you have to just accept any appointment time. You must bring ID to your "first" appointment with that service. After your first appointment, they will deign to provide you with an online account to book in future. The online system has generated an error message (and is therefore non functional) since we've moved to this area. You cannot access sexual health services in another area without a referral (and you won't get one of those for routine screening).
So, unless you have active symptoms or suspicious something or another that your GP might be able to carry out swabs for, you either have to keep phoning before 09:00 weekdays (no chance of appointments being available if you do get through earlier) or be U25. U19s have the option of a drop in clinic two EVENINGS a week. But us oldies are stuck with the 10-4 IF you get through on the phone.
The clinic is situated in an old hospital without major facilities, in the worst place for public transport in the area. It's the largest town in England without a mainline railway connection. It's quite far from the bus station, especially if you are disabled (like I am) and building work on the site means car parking is restricted, especially at peak times. |

Its not quite this bad in west of scotland , but very close. I end up paying privately but it should be accessible without charge across the board really. Access to contraception can be just as restricted. |

WOW so many amazing replies already but here's mine.
Terminology, when talking about your status please use words like 'positive or negative' result and not ''clean'' as this furthers the stigma that STI's are dirty
Otherwise, I get rather comprehensive testing and just sent off my latest batch
Including ORAL Swabs!
Chlamydia oral throat swab test
Chlamydia genital urine test
Gonorrhea oral throat swab test
Gonorrhea genital urine test
Mycoplasma Genitalium urine test
Trichomonas urine test
Syphilis blood test
HIV blood test
Herpes Simplex 2 blood test
Hepatitis B blood test
Hepatitis C blood test
___________
Ever heard of Trich?
Trichomoniasis is one the most common curable STD... yet not many people know about OR get tested for it
BV not technically a STi but did you know it can be prevelant in up to 40-50% of vulva owners and yet many go undiagnosed
You can get BV tests and change your diet or obtain medication to clear it up, BV is one of the common odors you might smell in a group play session, often undiagnosed & untreated

"I believe you can get postal kits in those locations by doing something with the system Teamonkey will be able to tell you how he got his! "
Tea doesn't live in this area though! Greater Manchester is made up of loads of towns and cities and each has it's own NHS trust, with different rules and provision. We've moved 5 miles across the border from one to town to another and the provision is completely different. No postal tests in either town unless under 25, however. The only towns in GM that have SH:24 available are Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and Tameside. We don't live in any of these parts of GM. |

For balance, I lived in mid Kent for almost five years; the sexual health service was superb, modern clinic, great staff, ad hoc advice as required!
They even recommended changing my testing routine when I mentioned I’d started dating a 30’s girl with Jamaican heritage as statistically I’d be more at risk!! I questioned the statistics, nurse printed out the research in front of me there and then! Absolutely superb!
Now I live in Asia and all testing is private and ridiculously cloak/dagger given the cultural challenges!
Hey ho, be safe peeps |

Has anyone else had a sh24 test which came back clear on urine but bloods were unusable?
I went to the local GU clinic for tests done when they couldn't do the bloods...
All clear... Next test in another month for me! |

Try drinking a pint of water before taking bloods, dehydration can muck the sample up |

"Not much point if your not having sex lol "
I agree... If I wasn't having sex - I wouldn't bother with regular testing. (hence the reason I get tested!) |
