Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like this?
When I look in the mirror, I feel that I look okay. Not exactly Brad Pitt, but okay, but when I see a photo of myself, I feel like I just look horrendous.
Is there such a thing as non photogenic or is it ridiculous insecurity? |

We naturally pick ourselves apart on photographs but being unphotogenic is a thing. I'm like Chandler Bing trying to take a selfie, it's not sexy at all. |

Angles my dear, and I totally get what you are saying.
Dont forget that you see a 3D image, the camera does not!
I was just thinking if I took a picture of me now as I woke up, it would make my mailbox a lot quieter! |

"I’m hear ya op!
Only for it to be validated when you send a face pic and you get back ‘not for me’ or worse blocked!!!!"
God, yes, that has happened. And I know the phrase is, “man up” but you can’t help feeling like shite. |

Non photogenic, yeah probably but doesn't apply to most.
I used to take a lot of pictures of people, and I can make anyone look less attractive. Wide angle and up close and that perfect bone structure counts for nothing.
Technique matters, I know we all have smartphones and the selfie is the thing now. But that smartphone in the hands of someone with a bit of nous will look better than your selfie
The insecurity part comes I think from comparing ourselves to idealised beauty. Genetics aside, your selfie will never match up with a professional processed shot.
The biggest difference you can make is smile, preferably laugh. The right photo will show something of your qualities not just appearance. |

"Whenever I take a selfie, I can look at the screen and think ‘yep, that looks pretty good’
Press the button…still looked good….go to check it…..wtf!! Who is that!!
It never looks the same
D."
Because the camera doesn't see what you see and the camera processes light differently to how humans do it. The automatic post processing that many smart phones do now can be a curse or a blessing. |

I hate photos of myself. I don't think I'm the least bit photogenic and have always struggled with smiling for the camera. Yeah, poor self-image for sure. |

This
Also, when you look in a mirror and see your reflection, you're looking at the reversed version of your face... this is the face you're used to seeing.
A camera does not do this, so when you see your face and it looks weird or odd, you're actually just looking at your face the same way everyone else does. |

Oh 100% this. I hate taking selfies for that reason because I can't see which angle I look good in. Do I do a beaming smile, slight smile, smouldering? Nothing works! |

As a photographer
If you cannot relax you’ll struggle,
Always better to create a smile .
And if I could give any tip for selfies it may sound stupid but angles work wonders and never be hard on yourself.
Having the confidence to post selfies means your already at ease with your self so don’t worry xx
Probably waffle but hope it helps xx |

Lightning +angles help... Find somewhere with a good background and then try out different poses.. Don't imagine for one minute that the majority of people on fab only take one shot
Take loads, find the best then replicate what you did... Find the best of those and then delete the rest |

You are what you are folks, no technology can 'capture' the real person that the camera/phone whatever, is pointing at? Yes you can get professional photographers in or go to a studio or something, but that's not the real you is it, you're done up/altered/made up, etc?
We're all individual, and unique in our own way? There are literally thousands of photos on here alone that are brilliant in their own way, be it just normal pics or the more sexy or graphic ones, all have their place and loads of them are worthy of the 'most fabbed' coveted title, but never get a look in due to the 'usual suspects' that are always up there, battling it out every other day between them to hit that top spot!
The self-confidence thing we fully understand, but just go ahead and snap away, any decent folk will appreciate your efforts even if you have doubts yourself? Have fun, and get snapping away (-: |

Oh god, I am really not photogenic at all. My face doesn't photograph well and I want to cry everytime someone takes a photo with me in. I've got such an uneven and lopsided face and it's so round and squishy and doesn't look like the me I see in the mirror. I only look ok if I hold a pose, the camera is a certain angle above me and not far away but even then I get upset when I look at the photo.

I don't take selfies ever. I don't have facepics here or in private or anywhere on my phone.
All my other pics are never preplanned apart from a few that were for a forum challenge.
Every other one was taken, lighting adjusted and posted in the space of 5 mins. I've never spent longer than that on any pic and unlike others I don't take lots of pics and reject most of them.
At most I might take two at a time.
Yes it's all about angles and lighting and in reality I'm much paler than my pics show but apart from that I refuse to make any other adjustments to pics. |

iT'S definetly a thing. I reckon I look pretty alright in the flesh but not on my photos.
Just means I have better chances in the real world over the online world.
Some people are the opposite |

"Some people are definitely more photogenic than others, but I don't believe any of us are completely unphotogenic. Just got to sort the wheat from the chaff with the pics."
This is true, but technique and practice makes all the difference. |
