In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

Why oh why oh why oh why do women have to go through this crap in the lower abdomen ALL THE STINKING TIME?

I mean, OK, in theory it is only a few days a month. But in practice it's not just the "could bleed to death" days, it's the egg laying days as well. That's basically half the month.

And why isn't there some kind of complaints department so I don't have to rant at you lovely people about how the devil and the brain goblins are having a damn riverdance lesson in my uterus?

Please make me feel better. Or just rant your rant.

Have at it.

(And if anyone I find sexy could please forget they read this, I'd really appreciate it... because ranting isn't sexy. Thank you)

I feel all the pain here. My bits don’t work at all. Never have, never will. Which is totally gutting as I’ve always wanted kids so much. And now to add to the shit show the menopause is being a bastard. A proper evil one.

Well obviously. Because losing weight solves everything. Absolutely everything. My pain was worse when I lost weight, like it had been diluted having to get through all the excess body.

No. Because even private doctors have the same aversion. But what if you change your mind? It doesn't matter that I fucking won't.

Also, don't worry about the tubal litigation Cede. My mother had one of those a decade before she got pregnant with me and my twin. And then was too late to get fixed because she assumed it wasn't that since she'd had her tubes tied.

I can’t speak from experience as even tho I’m a woman I’ve had the coil

For 23 years and never had a period or suffered a pain or a mood swing I know from speaking to friends I’m extremely lucky.

Also apparently I should be starting some sort of menopause according to friends but am yet to experience a symptom.

I do know tho after listening to friends and having a older daughter that for some reason when it comes to this doctors still don’t seem to be very sympathetic and understand how this can affect womens mental health and affect them physically.

Sorry to hear you're struggling and that so many others are too. I'll join the rant club with perimenopause some other time. Being a woman is hard.

Have some virtual hugs under a fan. Hopefully you manage some sleep and things ease a bit for you soon xx

You have my sympathy! I'm only on day two and I'm fed up and wish I could stay in my bed all weekend.

Have you tried growing a dick instead?

In answer to the go private comment, it has been pointed out above that most private docs won't do it if you don't have kids.

But also, why should we have to go private? I can only speak for me here, although I feel like what I'm going to say might resonate with some others.

I cannot grow babies. I didn't care before I hit 30, I was fine with that. But after that I desperately wanted them. And I went through 6 more miscarriages, including 3 where I had to have most of my blood replaced and almost died. They still wouldn't take it all out, despite my request.

So at least twice a month (bleeding and egg laying time, remember), I have to deal with agonising pain (and I live in a lot of pain, so this must be bad), then there is the major blood flow, AND the reminder that it is all completely pointless anyway. Because I'm a complete failure as a woman. I can't even perform the basic function.

It devastates me every month. My quality of life is ruined by pain, blood and depression. It affects me constantly. Plus the PCOS which has the side effect of (among other things) thick, dark hair, which makes me feel like crap about other parts of my body.

The depression and anxiety that it all causes is a major issue. With any other issue the NHS would be happy to help.

"Got the wrong size boobs and it's making you depressed? We will change that for you"

"Need help to stop that addiction you started BY CHOICE? Here... have some help"

"Can't get a boner? Let's sort that"

But

"You female person want to make it so you can't have (more or any) children? Even though it actually won't happen for you EVER, and you might die through blood loss, or might wish you were dead because of pain? No. We won't help even though it's a simple and relatively cheap procedure... instead you can use way more resources when you almost die... because you're a woman and you don't know what's best for you".

We shouldn't have to go private to have this procedure.

"I can’t speak from experience as even tho I’m a woman I’ve had the coil

For 23 years and never had a period or suffered a pain or a mood swing I know from speaking to friends I’m extremely lucky.

Also apparently I should be starting some sort of menopause according to friends but am yet to experience a symptom.

I do know tho after listening to friends and having a older daughter that for some reason when it comes to this doctors still don’t seem to be very sympathetic and understand how this can affect womens mental health and affect them physically.

I’m not sure why theirs still so little understanding on this subject and what can be done to change it.A lot of women still seemed to get fobbed off and in this day and age that’s definitely not acceptable."

Can highly recommend Invisible Women as an eye-opening read on the gender data gap.

Women's health isn't looked into to the extent that other things are. But that's a debate I'm not getting into.

The coil has never helped me... none of the contraceptive solutions have. I'm glad they've helped you though.

It's not completely useless so don't dispose of it just yet. Put it in a glass container with some water and leave it by your front door. Rex will be around in the morning because he likes collecting them.

They still won't give me one even though that has happened to me, and the last 3 miscarriages have had me almost in the ground too.

It's mental. I'm glad you don't have to suffer now."

I was told there was no other alternative. I was told of all the other options and that they wouldn't be any good for me as I had huge fibroid and endometriosis.

I already had grandchildren so they weren't worried about me not having more children.

The gynaecologist actually said you won't be able to have any more.

I was at heart attack level anaemia and couldn't keep the levels up, so there wasn't any other option.

I hope yours get better as you get older.

I think it is horizontal but make sure to start from the South side and end in the North with at least 180 spin at least seven times and don't forget the sharp pencil to control the flow.

I had a morena coil fitted in my 30s and luckily no more periods, bliss. I went through the menopause early without any trouble too. And I know I'm very fortunate because some women really suffer.

Apart from offering sympathy from the sidelines, there’s not a lot else I can add here- but I do have a question for the forumites who’ve experienced such shitty doctoring:

Were these GPs male or female?

I bet I know the answer in the majority of cases!

A nurse friend, who works in a GP surgery and has been on the receiving end of this sort of shit has this to say about it:

This level of care should NOT happen in this day and age- the NHS is supposed to be about patient-centred care and should work on the basis that the patient knows their own body/plans for the future better than the GP. Too many doctors still think that they are some sort of god-like, all-knowing sage whose wisdom must not be challenged, and it’s bullshit. The only way this will change is if patients start sticking up for themselves- it shouldn’t be this way, but it is, and it sucks.

Next time a GP gives such poor service, do two things-

Immediately make a complaint- either at the GP practice directly, and/or via the GMC.

Insist on seeing a different GP for all future appointments- preferably a female doctor, but you could also ask for a GP with Special Interest (aka a Gypsy!) in women’s health.

GP practices will have to listen to, and act on these complaints, and can not hide from them if they are in writing. Complaining should have the twin benefit of getting you as an individual the care you deserve, but also force a cultural change in the mindset of GPs.

I concur, Ned. Your pal is wise.

However, for me this has been 4 GPs over 32 years... it's been horrendous from the beginning, and i first begged to be neutered at age 19. One of the GPs was female.

It hasn't just been GPs either, it's been gynaecologists of varying levels as well.

The general surgeon who went in to remove a cyst the size of a grapefruit was so proud of herself for saving my ovary. I think I upset her when I sobbed uncontrollably because I was devastated.

The system needs shaking up for so many reasons, and the allocation of funds needs some tweaks. And women need to change. We need to stop just accepting that pain, discomfort, near death are just the cost of being a woman, need to stop showing our kids that it isn't OK to say it's bad. There are so many voices agreeing that telling boys and men to "man up" is destructive, but we still tell women (and tell ourselves) that the menstrual cycle is just life and we need to get on with it and not moan.

I may be still a bit cranky, because Day 3 is like the continuation of a series no one really wanted in the first place, but I think I may also be right.

I used to suffer with horrendous pain that only got worst when I had my son many years ago. I have since then had three surgeries to remove polyps and dermoid cysts that keep popping up. In my last surgery they fitted a mirena coil in and I’ve never been happier of any gynaecological decision in my life. No periods for almost 3 years now and the pain has improved so much. They still keep telling me to lose weight though

.

You don't need to apologise at all NSP, it's good to read this kind of thread.

My periods are awful - I have PCOS so I've got the pain, the sort of pain that results in me throwing up, the difficulty in losing weight. The migraines. The hormonal PMTing where I could happily tell people to fuck off and then cry the next minute. And then the anaemia that follows.

I'm getting better at coping with them, prescribed Tramadol but hate taking it so try and get by without it.

Losing weight has helped my symptoms a little but, and this is a big but, it shouldn't be the case that the automatic assumption is things will improve if you lose weight. Or that you're not trying. It's so fucking harmful. I've lost over ten stones now - I still have awful pain. I know friends who are slimmer than me who suffer horrifically.

For those who don't? Great.

But minimising how awful it can be is wank.

It is wank. And I have all this. It is utter, utter shite and we shouldn't have to suffer.

I never doubt that for things like PCOS, if we lose weight the symptoms will ease. Because that's logical. Less pressure on the body should mean less pressure on the symptoms, hence symptoms ease. But I object to the blanket "too fat" statements.

I'm not going to rant again... but I appreciate the support and the sharing.

It does. I'm sulking.

Apparently some women called Eve. If she hadn’t fucked around with a snake and pinched that apple, you’d just be laying eggs like a duck. Fucked her sons too. Very dodgy character…

"I’ve begged for a hysterectomy many times, both due to my gender dysphoria and horrific menstrual issues, and all I’ve been told is ‘lose weight’

Ah yes, I forgot that me losing weight helps the psychological torture I go through weeks before my period even begins, let alone the physical torture

Urgh, do not get me started on all the problems I've been told will be solved if I loose some weight and stress less

Exactly. Calm down and eat a salad... for it shall cure all that ails you.

Where's the facepalm emoji? "

Thankfully my periods these days aren't as bad as when I was a teen. Used to get anemic and could barely walk some days with the pain. Ended up on prescribed painkillers. Not so bad these days but still not exactly enjoyable. Thankfully I don't need more than paracetamol now. Sending hugs.

Oh i hear you! I have PCOS and the ignorant doctors who told me loose weight and my symptoms would improve boil my piss! I couldn't loose chuffing weight because of my PCOS there wasn't a diet on this earth I haven't tried to do that, it took seeing the same gp four times once a week to actually get a scan and medication and guess what..... I started to lose weight and it helped my symptoms.

Tinder x"

Yeah I've recently been told I've got PCOS. The irony of then being told to loose weight to help the symptoms and in the same breath being told that it's harder to loose weight with PCOS is not lost on me. Very frustrating

"Why oh why oh why oh why do women have to go through this crap in the lower abdomen ALL THE STINKING TIME?

I mean, OK, in theory it is only a few days a month. But in practice it's not just the "could bleed to death" days, it's the egg laying days as well. That's basically half the month.

And why isn't there some kind of complaints department so I don't have to rant at you lovely people about how the devil and the brain goblins are having a damn riverdance lesson in my uterus?

Please make me feel better. Or just rant your rant.

Have at it.

(And if anyone I find sexy could please forget they read this, I'd really appreciate it... because ranting isn't sexy. Thank you)"

Sorry to hear your minge has got red on it.

And about the, erm, womb wombats.

Have you tried walking it off?

"I used to suffer with horrendous pain that only got worst when I had my son many years ago.

The coil just made things worse for me the 3 times they tried it.

I'm so glad it is working for you!

Oh no I am so sorry to read this. Out of curiosity was it copper coil or Mirena? Copper coil is notoriously known to make things so much worst for gynae issues

Mirena the last two times, but copper the first.

That’s not on my first Mirena became dislodged and perforated the uterus though

I am sorry to hear you are struggling so much, I hope they give you a solution. If you have a look at right to choose in the nhs website, you could always try to find a gynaecologist more sympathetic with your situation, even if it’s private. If they have an agreement with the nhs, you are entitled to be funded for that treatment through a gp request. If you need more info on that feel free to message

Thank you lovely. Over the last 30 years I've basically tried everything. Menopause will be my friend.

No problem! That’s what I think as well, then I think about the hot flushes "

See... it's never bloody ending

You made me do that sexy snort laugh thing... thank you.

Taking the dogs for a walk is evil at the moment... I've ended up bent double several times on the mile walk. And then they look at me as if to say "erm... you keep telling us not to stop so much... and here you are doing it too!"

Ugh... It's at least one week of every month that I'm "out of action".

Tried various birth control, just messes with me physically and mentally. I'm actually looking forward to the menopause

Posh, dearest lady. Total empathy and sympathy here. I'm attempting a medical menopause but after the doc insisted on add-back HRT, all my symptoms immediately returned so I stopped it. Cue massively heavy and unannounced bleeding and then less than a week after it stopped, more bleeding. So, I now have menopause symptoms AND bleeding

It's obvious that oestrogen (real, synthetic or analogous) triggers my issues. I know I have adenomyosis and endometriosis is strongly suspected but they CBA to actually look. I'm on the waiting list for hysterectomy, finally, but a long wait. Hoping an endo surgeon will also join in.

Have you asked a gynaecologist about trying ProStap or similar to induce a medical menopause? It was great for me, until the HRT was given......

"I have always felt sorry for what women have to go through every month. Evolution is one stupid mothafucka."

It's every month as in, constantly for many women! Not "just" one week out of four. Even then, imagine a quarter of your life being in discomfort of some sort and having to arse about throughout the day with shoving stuff inside yourself to absorb the bleeding or sitting with a glorified náppy stuck to your bits on days like we've had recently? Having to think really carefully about what you wear in case the blood leaks out of the stuffing/náppies? Having to spend loads of money on different solutions to deal with the bleeding, etc.

Tis excellent fun
