Maybe you need to start at an easy level Ie knees on the floor , build up the reps and then slowly your get there.

What's press-ups got to do with abs workouts!?

Press-ups are primarily a shoulders exercise.

Strengthen your shoulders first then get on the floor and bang some out

Press ups I believe are both yes a lot of shoulder but to remain rigid and plank like takes a lot of core strenght.doesnt it?

Why can't you do them?

Depends on how far you have your arms set apart...wide for chest and narrow for shoulders.

Not entirely sure why you can't do them? Body weight exercises (press-ups, dips, chins) are often far better than using weights but people often just don't do them.

You look rather tall, and tall people generally tend to have longer arms, and thus can have trouble with pushing exercises (the towering Dolph Lungren once said that despite his size, he struggled to Bench Press more than 300lbs).

As someone said earlier, if you're struggling with full Press Ups then start by doing them on your knees rather than your toes, and experiment with your hand spacing to find what feels most comfortable for your chest.

abs work out..

to get fast effective results, you need lay on your back, raise you knees slightly so there inline with your waist and do small crunches, with lots of reps.

doing them before you go to bed is a bad idea, while sleeping your body shuts down and goes on a 8 hr fast. best time is morning and during a afternoon workout.

as for doing press ups if your struggling. try doing one press up, then take a step with your hands to the side. go down again. then when your back up take a step again. repeat this in low reps.

but from what your saying, you dont have a great upper body strength, this is a major area you need to concentrate on if your wanting to tone up. concentrate on a pull up bar.

but no matter how much you try and just keep fit. either if its just for personal health or extreme training. if your not eating the right amount of carbs, protein, and fats...no matter what you in a workout its pointless..

basically you could do a thousand push ups a day..but if your a eating nothing but fatty crap you want gain anything.

Nutrition is VASTLY overated when it comes to training, mostly by supplement companies looking to make some easy cash - so long as you're eating a reasonably substantial amount of calories and training hard, you'll get stronger.

As well as doing modified press ups on your knees to make them easier. In my classes I get anyone that struggles to stand against a wall, and perform them that way.

Start off with the wall, then the knees then full press ups, alternate hand positions to target different muscle groups.

Press ups will target the triceps, pecs, deltoids, and to some extent the abs, as you will be engaging them to maintain a rigid body position

Try planks, sit ups, bicycles, bird dogs, russian twists, leg raises as an alternative

if you have a smartphone, try an app (and a website) called 100 Push Ups (maybe it's 100 press ups?). it has a training plan to follow, shows/counts rest times during the workout and keeps a log. It's very good.

Great advice, we get our participants doing the same thing. Have a look on google or YouTube for planks these are a fantastic place to start. Doing planks on a regular basis will do wonders for you.

Talking about pressups 8 yrs ago I was on holiday in Cyprus and met this cpl Chris n Clair. Chris was 21 while we were there and we clicked (nothing sexual) I dont know how we got onto the subject but Chris said can you do one handed pressups I said yes can you do a pressup and clap I said yes of cors. He then said can you do a pressup clap front back and then front again

I saw him do this who else can do this?

I agree the right food & nutrition is a must if you want to gain muscle or lose weight

I didn't mention athletes.

Of course, when you're competing against some of the best in the world you need to have all bases covered, but assuming the vast majority of people who work out in the world arn't actually athletes, then concentrate on the actual workout - this belief that if you're not counting every single nutrient that you eat then you won't get stronger is pure bullshit.

training or getting healthy isnt just about a work out. the point i was trying to get across, which most seem to have missed i was advising that, if your putting in the work, to tone up. you need to make sure your body is getting a healthy balance.

the advise to follow a good diet on any work out, is to basically give your body the good stuff it needs.

any man needs 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight for a natural daily consumption. if your body isnt getting that. you will just burn off more protein, carbs and fat. than your putting it.

its all about a healthy balance. its not as if this guys trying to turn his body in to sculpture but its always good to keep the balance.

i weight nearly 122 pounds, for a natural balance i need 122 grams of protein a day, but with the training i do..i max out to about 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. some weeks when im training in bulk i max up to 2 grams. for the first two weeks of this years i gained 2 inches on my chest, 1.5 inches on my arms. basically between eating right and training right.

supplements are a good building point for those people who are focused on bulking body mass. they are not something everyone needs its all dependent on what the individual person wants to achieve. now for me to achieve my targets..i wouldnt be able to consume the much solid food. so supplements assist me in that.

if your just toning up, just eat healthy, and take it steady. if your bulking research whats best for you and your lifestyle

i totally agree with this, watching and counting every point of your diet, isnt needed, if your not purposely aiming for a mr universe body...
