A couple I got to know quite well decided to leave FAB recently. Although that's sad, I'm sure I'll keep in touch with them.
What's surprised me though is with the exception of leaving their posted messages in forums with no picture and the message that the user has left the site, all record of them has been erased from the site.
Specifically any verifications that they have left, which did include one for me, but also included several other people has been removed and any private messages sent and recieved have been removed to.
While I appreciate that if someone leaves the site, either voluntarily or otherwise, it does seem a bit wrong for verifications that they have given in good faith at the time are also removed.
As a general discussion item, if you leave the site, what trace of you do you think should remain, rabging from absolutely nothing, just posts in the forum or everything just making it anonymous.
Thoughts please from those whom wish to contribute. |

Do wonder about the verifications as they were left in good faith at the time , however we can understand why they are removed as this stops people verifying then leaving, setting up another profile and verifying again etc, it could be open to abuse that way so it makes sense ( its just annoying when they dissapear lol) |

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
There was a discussion about this on the feedback forum once. I think veris should stay but, like the messages and forum posts, should have (user left site) next to them. It must be a real bugger for someone struggling to meet to get a veri then, if the people leave, so does the veri! |

That's a good point actually and one I hadn't thought of.
I think it's fine as it is, and I'm pretty sure forum posts and messages DO stay, which is good cos it keeps threads making sense and not full of gaps
I always curse my bad memory though when there is a thread full of (user no longer on site) hate not knowing who they were |

It keeps me amused trying to guess who they were.
I know, I need to get out more... |

I think the site handles things perfectly.
The profile name goes so that it isn't giving false readings regarding membership and people aren't wasting their time trying to contact redundant profiles.
Think about pubs, clubs or parties. If a regular leaves town never to return. Do we leave her lipstick on the glass , save her seat and not allow anyone to sit in it and keep on endlessly re telling that joke she once told in 2002 ? Maybe we should spray her perfume over the bar twice a day?
Make sure everyone remembers she once said you were cute ? ( a reference to lost veri's )
When people go they go. Others take their place.

The verification should go.
For me the calibre of the person who left the verification is as important if not MORE important than what was said in the verification.
Glowing testamonials from undesirables are not worth the bandwith they are typed on. |
