It's useful for those who are endowed with many many friends on their "friends list" AND with whom they communicate frequently and fervently. It's a useful feature.
It serves no purpose for me though: I'm not so cavalier in accepting friend requests and I only intentionally posses a small collection of friends. Nearly all now exist on WhatsApp or Telegram. |

I got excited but then came to similar conclusion  most communication happens outside of here..
Had many more on a single profile but this time its a very small number, by choice.
I'm still celebrating. A long awaited announcement  well done IT Gods

I had not seen this, and so just go to the general inbox, which also seems to have the messages from Friends appearing there anyway.
Hope they continue that, otherwise I may forget to look in a separate inbox where the friends message. |

Its good to see something new of course. 
The cynic in me predicts a rise in random friends requests from epeople you've never spoken to though, in the hope that they're messages will make the 'special list' rather than be lumped in with the hoi polloi....

On my phone it does not look like there is a separate friends message box, which may be why I've not spotted it before.
The old hoi polloi have not been messaging me. I blame JRM or BoJo, they have a habit of confusing the masses with their tangential flirts with Latin, Greek, the Classics, and in BoJo's case anything in a skirt, whilst I believe JIM'S nanny will not let him play with the great unwashed  |
