I’m planning a road trip next year across Europe to the border of Asia in Istanbul. I want to take my daughter who will be 5 out of school and travel as many countries and visit cool places along the way,

As yet I’m thinking start in London at the natural history museum, into France and then Belgium and Holland. Into Germany and Austria before Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia. And then quickly through Greece and into turkey. Before finishing in Istanbul.

Now I’d like to know any routes you’d suggest?1. I’m thinking a month in total as it’s 2000+ miles there and same back. including steps to take in some culture and have a fun daddy and daughter road trip. I’ve travelled lots alone and with friends and have been many exotic and interesting places. So I’m not nervous about the expedition or planning

Do you think I’m mad?

Irresponsible taking a 5 yr old?

Or a great adventure to plan before she starts her schooling properly?

And tell me if you’ve done anything similar and how did it go.

A month

To do that miles is nuts.

I do 6 month trips round Europe every year. I wouldn't even go further than France for a month lol.

I think you'll get fined taking your daughter out of school outside of holidays these days though

Greece itself needs at least 2 -3 months to explore .

I'm heading off again in November, 3 months in Greece 2 months in Turkey and a month split travelling between Scotland and Greece and return trip.

Sounds amazing! She will love it! And don't worry about taking her out of school as that in itself is a great education! Plus that quality time with her daddy! Go for it and have an amazing time! X

At 5 they won’t remember most of it and what’s cool to you, in terms of monuments, places of interest will mean little to someone of 5.

Unless they’ve seen it on Go-Jetters

You’d have to take plenty of pics as that’s the only way they’ll remember standing in different places.

My son is almost 9 and I think he’d appreciate it more at that age rather than 5. They’ll still be napping during the day, especially in the car for so long.

But when they are older and looking back on pics, they’ll think what a cool dad you were for taking them on a road trip.

I’m their first year of school there’s no fines as it’s a reception year. Already looked at that. Yeah it seems a bit to adventitious to do that kind of distance, maybe I’ll stick to the coast of Europe and do france, Belgium, Holland Germany and Denmark! That should be doable and use the month to enjoy it.
