I've always found it amusing that it's called that considering a mile high is 5,280 feet.

Even old style propeller planes fly at almost twice that and Jet planes fly at around 35,000 feet - which is 10.6 miles up.

Mind you, it'd sound stupid calling it the 10 mile high club I suppose
