"Anyone got any home remedies for earache other than cotton wool or the usual paracetamol/ibuprofen.
Thanks in advance xx"
Depends what's causing it, I usually try warm olive oil in the ear, then lay on it, making sure cotton wool at the ready |

Wrap a hot water bottle in a towel and use it like a pillow.
This can simply relieve the pressure in the ear and ease the pain but it can also melt any wax so it oozes out. So put another towel over your pillow tonight.
But it's worth refilling it at bedtime and lying on it tonight too. |

wanting alternative to medication, I'm already on morphine and other strong pain killers.
My sis can take one co-codamol and it will knock her out for a day. I need to take 10 just for them to slightly dull the pain.
Gonna get the hot water bottles out, always forget how useful they are. |

Gave this hint to a friend and then got a wake up call the following morning a a graphic description of the gunk that had come out over the towel!
Just the way I like to gently meet the day.

If you've got a cold, it's likely to be swelling causing the eustacian tube to not function properly which will cause negative pressure in your middle ear which can be painful.
Try decongestants and if the pain persists, go see your GP.
Hope you feel better soon!

I had a mastoidectomy three weeks ago and have been on co-codamol since I was discharged from hospital. These ran out today.
going to have to wait until monday to get another prescription now. Probably do me stone good though and allow my head to clear up a little as the tablets are really strong. |
