Greek-style yoghurt isn’t a real thing.

Nicholas Saunders, the founder of Neal’s Yard called his new recipe Greek Yoghurt because he couldn’t think of anything else.

Others have copied the name blindly.

You are right as is in style and not the real thing. The only real greek yoghurt available in supermarkets that I know of is fage though some delicatessens do sell other imported greek yoghurt. Unlike feta, greek yoghurt is not protected as a PDO or PGI in the EU but because it is different than any other yoghurt evetyone else says theirs is in style.

Greek yogurt imported from Greece is though. The first time I heard of it was in the 70s when used to read a monthly article written by a British woman living in a Greek village

You can still get yoghurt weighted and scooped from big pots into different size containers just like ice cream in some parts. I had some when on holiday a few times. Delicious
