"Should we be careful with this? Is it a good or bad thing? " AI just is, it isn't good or bad. Like most human inventions it will almost certainly have unintended consequences, it will be used to do good things and it will be used to do bad things. The unintended consequences are hard to assess and even once we become aware of them will almost certainly be accepted as the idea of giving up immediate and obvious benefits to reduce harm from long term and nebulous harms never works. You only need to look at the car to understand that. We kill around 4000 people every year with cars, if this death toll was attributed to a particular group of people there would be outrage but because no one wants to lose the freedom of personal transport, we accept the damage. AI will be the same. It already has widespread and tangible benefits, no amount of handwringing or protest over possible future harm will ever be considered more important than this. | |||
