Reports that five French soldiers have been charged with failing to try and rescue a Mayday call from a stricken boat in the French Channel.
Has this charge been brought before. There were similar reports that a ship saw distress flares from the Titanic but refused to ater course. It's all over the news |

There was an interesting story on the BBC website a couple of days ago about a man in Wales who intercepted the SOS Mayday radio signals from the Titanic. Despite only having one leg he cycled to the police station but they didn't believe him. Marconi heard about it and gave the Welshman a research job. |

"Didn't the ship that saw the flares from the Titanic think it was just a fireworks display??
In the middle of the Atlantic,?"
Supposedly yes as they knew Titanic was in the area on its maiden voyage! |

Cyril Evans, the radio operator of the SS Californian had tried to warn the Titanic of Icebergs in the area that the ship was steaming into but Jack Phillips, one of the radio operators on the Titanic was busy trying to clear a backlog of passenger messages and didn't realy these messages to Captain Smith and apparently even sent a message to Evans asking him to be quiet as he was busy 'working Cape Race'.
It is understoond that Evans then stopped working and went to bed.
Prior to Titanic, flares were not always interpreted as distress signals. Sometimes, ships would fire rockets or flares to indicate their position to other ships in the area.
Titanic was firing white flares , which were meant to signal distress which were misinterpreted by officers on board the Californian.
This was because distress rockets were meant to be fired at one minute intervals but the rockets Titanic fired were at random intervals.
After the sinking , the firing of rockets or flares was to be interpreted as a distress signal to other vessels as established by the Board of Trade rules. |

"What happened to the people on the boat in the channel?
All 27 migrants drowned
Oh that’s heartbreaking
And their distress call was ignored?! "
The lifeboat crews near here have been attacked for saving migrants in small boats. |

Sadly some people don’t actually care.
Migrants have been dehumanised… much like the Jews in the 1930’s.
Many in this country would applaud ignoring the distress call, and it sickens me |

The French have a Samaritan law where if you could help, and didn't you can be charged. They did some French mercenaries in the early 90s for letting the Burmese rebels they were training kill and eat captured government soldiers then had photos developed in Paris. |
