Too good to be true

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

How often you come across someone and think to yourself: No, they are just too good to be true! Too smart (must be copy and paste from somehere), too kind (must have hidden bad intentions), too handsome (those pictures surely are some model's!)

Do you trust what you see on here in other words or your experience taught you not to?

Some ladies, yes. The shots are 'too' perfect and the veris are too sickly.

Often.

Time tends to filter them out though.

Or Tineye

They will usually ask me to move off site, won't engage in an actual conversation, or only talk about sex.

Also its amazing how many grandads die just as they are meant to meet.

Can't say I've ever thought someone is too good to be true.

But neither do I trust a lot that I see on here

How good they are, how awesome etc. Just my usual nature to not judge anything as real until I've met them, hence I normally just go to clubs

I've met some very smart, good looking, kind , empathetic and nice people via Fab over the years - so it's perfectly possible.

That said I've also met people who were different to their online personas and looked a little dissimilar to their photos. Not always in a deliberately deceptive way, just maybe they'd exaggerated a little. I've never met anyone who was that significantly different to the extent I couldn't tell if it was them online or someone else.

I'll always maintain a little scepticism til I've physically met someone. That's a healthy approach to have.

I do like mix of responses and different angles to it.

Im guessing some of those views might come from mistrust due to being lied to, some from having learnt it's ok to give credit of trust and whether other person is worth it - that we will clarify in time surely

Every time I pass a mirror

On a serious note though I'm a lot more sceptical since joining this site than I ever was before and it's not always down to individuals presenting themselves as something or someone they are not.

That happens of course but the old saying about not being able to fool all of the people all of the time doesn't seem to apply on fab.

As bad as the offenders are, the large numbers of supposedly intelligent people who are permanently like rabbits in headlights is at times hilarious and at times very sad.

.

I tend to trust people. A bit naive? Possibly. I've yet to come across as a profile that I think is too good to be true - generally I think people are how they present themselves, more or less. Ish.

Can you be cautious and yet not doubtful? I'm not sure if that's a juxtaposition but that's me.

Maybe they are just very smitten with the person in question. Maybe the words of affirmation is their love language. Maybe they want to score second meet. Who knows? But yes it's good to reserve judgement before actually meeting someone. Who cares what was others experience like? It only gives you a little insight. After all person writing it isn't us?

Well, from my experience last week which you know about I've decided I no longer trust anyone and I'm not going out of my way anymore to include people.

It's uncalled for and very nasty to do to someone else.

I’m easily fooled. And I’ve often been taken for a ride.

Not anymore, this is why I make sure I’m completely untrue about everything before they are.

Carlisle usually

I think I assume everyone is putting on a front and work from what I can see between the lines.

The only time I get a real dissonance is when someone I already adore does something too nice, and that's more of an issue about me not deserving them than about actually doubting them.

Trust, in my opinion, isn’t something I do automatically, it takes time. But then I do also believe some people can be trusted from the off set, I think it genuinely depends on the person. I’ve just had far too many bad experiences so I’m always suspicious

Haven't really been surprised by someone being too hot or too smart. Came across plenty of such people. Have been surprised with "too kind" people. But I have kind of understood where people's moral views come from. So I believe that if I dig deeper, I can get the answers.
