"Hopefully future childhoods will be untainted by celebrities turning out to be monsters. (I mean in the sense of having to come to terms with who celebrities are - I'm making no accusations)"
It is a bit odd, sometimes one wonders which of today's kids TV people will be uncovered as an unpleasant person in the future. |

I don't get the need to see death, or to celebrate it. This is a tragedy in my eyes. I saw him as a kid, and he actually grew up in Cardiff and liked to come here quite a lot. Later in life me and some flatmates used to play his Greatest Hits quite a lot for a laugh.
What transpired was terrible and so horrible to hear. I just see it as immensely sad, not anything to celebrate at all. pt

out of all the nasty warped sexual predictors from the 70s 80s and beyond. He was the one that disappointed me the most. I actually liked him and hoped it was not true. But alas, It was proved to be true and may he rot in hell with Jimmy Savile and co.
Nasty fuckers who do not deserve to be remembered. |

I can't say I'm saddened by his passing or pleased I'm nothing."
I can't understand why Glitter isn't locked up until he dies also. |

Mainly because his crimes occurred abroad or he was convicted under old sentencing rules because convictions are based on the era when the crime happened for sex crimes, I believe? |

Sad really and his sentence ( paid his dues??) just goes to show how as a society how little we value children and do so little to protect them even when they are caught and the same old mantra is trotted out everytime " Lessons will be learnt et etc etc " and a good friend of mine served more time for a burgalary than Rolf did ?? xx |

Sentencing is a farce all round, most barely do more than a 3rd of their sentence inside & even murderers can be out in 12/14yrs.
You should do the time in Prison & do longer if not behaving. |

I don't care, while one person dies after ruining people lives in the past people celebrate. Not much of a celebration for those who still suffer at the hands of abusers who are still living and ruining innocent lives. |

No he didn’t. His parents were from Cardiff. He grew up in Australia. Went to school and uni in Australia. He was nearly 30 when he moved to the UK
It’s only sad for the children whose childhood he stole. That’s why people would celebrate. |

I really couldn't believe it when the story first broke about his antics.
I mean, surely not Rolf.
Stunned when he was found guilty, but given what we now know he was getting up to, I doubt he'll be missed by many |

-Hang on. Don't do the 'No.' thing like I'm full of shit - you've just been on Wikipedia that is all. Harris used to talk about Claude Road all the time, and visiting Roath Park as a child. It's quite a big road in Cardiff, I know quite a few people who have lived on it. It's always been part of Cardiff folk-law. Maybe they were back here all the time? I'm not going to double check, although I think it probably was from visiting here a lot now I think back about it. But so what? He was part of MY childhood. Not everyone has the same heavy-handed way of dealing with these things. That's all. --pt |

I feel nothing… for a man entrusted to entertain and engage with kids who betrayed that trust numerous times leaving lasting emotional scarring on his victims …. Not worth my hate, my disgust… my anger or my thoughts. |

Had he kept his didgeridoo to himself, he would have been seen in a wholly different light
He was popular, very popular, almost Saint like because of his affable nature and his love for animals
He had the public fooled
It's a shame we have to remember him as the monster that was uncovered |

I didn’t say it like you were full of shit. I said that you were factually incorrect, and then gave my opinion on why people are celebrating.
I got the information from his autobiography (which was for free online. I wouldn’t pay a penny for it) not Wikipedia. I’m presuming that his memory of his own life was better than “folklore” from people in your area.

Sarcasm? As I’ve said, I was not being facetious. It’s a big World out there and most of it has not heard of Rolf Harris. In your little mind, you simply presumed I was being so childish as to make such a simple minded joke out of his paedophilia. Where I was living clearly had no interest in reporting this matter, hence why I had not known about it. |

-He was convicted in Australia I expect, and I think it came out in bits over time rather than in one show-stopping revelation (like Saville in the end, despite so many people knowing in the police and his profession etc). It was certainly in the news though.

Thanks for explaining, PT. I had no idea and I didn’t know about Jimmy Saville until not long ago either. I still don’t know what horrors Rolf Harris committed but I presume it would be similar to Saville’s. I don’t want to know any more than that. |

I used to watch his art programme as a youngster...I also have seen him at Glastonbury, first on the other stage then the crowds where so big they had to put him on the main stage...it really sickened me when it all came out exactly what he is/was...a dirty pedophile scum...should have died in prison and been tortured for what he'd done I hope all his victims really do find peace for what he did to them!!
What celebrity is next for been exposed as a dirty scum pedophile?? Cos' there will be another one |

Rolf Harris was a talented guy who bettered himself by moving to England, but his fame, charm and power enabled him to express the darkest aspects of his complex personality; he was a paedophile, that he managed to keep hidden for decades.
Why was he a person who had a sexual preference for pre-pubescent girls?
Who knows. But it is a deviant sexual preference that is abhorred by society, and punished when proven in court. |
