Are you happy in the country you live
Jump to: Newest in thread
I am happy living in my quiet corner of this green little land, the politics is broken, the rich rule with impunity, everything costs too much and there is a general malaise in the air.
But that is true of many places in the world now. I take joy from the moors and the surrounding countryside, I walk the wild coast and ride across distant fields.
When the sun shines it is a perfect moment. Could it be better? Yes. But it could be worse too, so that’s the balance of modern life I guess |

I feel I live in a country in decline, heading to dangerous places politically. But then I suspect that anywhere I go might feel the same.
I know what I fell in love with when I moved here, and why I stayed. |

Just back from up north, love my part of London. Also having lived abroad a lot, whilst I love other countries (especially the heat and the sea), I do like how green England is (though it is usually too cold for me). |

The U.K. is a great place, but at the moment I’d rather live somewhere else.
I don’t like the current negative sentiment and sense of entitlement amongst people here at the moment. I’m sure it’ll pass eventually, but I need a break from it. |

I will move to my home in Greece permanently in a couple of years, maybe sooner the way the country is heading, overall it is cheaper to live there, my equivalent of council tax there is 130 euros a year, my one bed flat here is over 150 a month! |

I’d rather live in Jamaica. And hopefully one day I can afford to although it’s difficult now I’ve also had a child to just leave when not everyone else wants to.
But it’s not great but not terrible here. I think because London is diverse. |

Yes. I'd be much more negative about a British or English monoculture. |

Happy being British.
I don't go for any of the politics around atm (Newnew Labour, the Libs, the Cons, any kind of breakaway nationalism or even the Greens as a party - but that's 'by the by' in terms of wanting to live here.

Everyone is on a downer with this thread aren’t they?
Having lived all over the world I, for one, wouldn’t want to live anywhere other than the British Isles.
We have _loads_ of problems here but they are definitely first world problems. Every other countries problems are a magnitude worse - when the shit hits the fan elsewhere (which it does with regularity) then you will wish you only had first world problems. |

I think we take so much for granted in the UK. Having been lucky to travel in different countries you can see there are problems everywhere. I'll continue to travel but I wouldn't wish to live anywhere else. |

Sometimes I think I'd like to move to Italy. Or Scotland. But yes, I'm happy here. I like the dire weather, the odd habit of underseasoning food. The joy of listening to different accents, learning about local culture. I quite like a lot about living here.
(I'm keeping it light and not political, intentionally) |

By and large, I'm happy here. I love London, and think there's lots to like about the UK. Lots to dislike too, but it's home.
But if anyone wants to club together for a holiday home in the sun somewhere, I'm all ears. |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
I'm fine with living here. There are issues, and I could make my home in another place, one day I might do that.
But my unhappiness and discontented times aren't to do with where I live, they're to do with me. And with other people. And wherever I live there will be me, and probably other people.
So I can't say I'd be happier elsewhere, I genuinely don't know. That doesn't mean I wouldn't try it and see. |

Absolutely not. Only still here for my children. The education and health system is unbeatable.
Once they have fled the nest, I'm hoping to be somewhere more sunny and open a bar. The Northern British dream i suppose. |

I've lived and worked in a few countries - it's very true to say that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere. I love the UK, but we keep away from the cities these days.

I love England but unfortunately don't like a lot of the people who live in it! I really envy Europeans who can easily move from country to country without passports, currency exchanges etc where as for us it's a real ball ache even going to Northen France for the day. Not helped by the fact I'm hopeless at learning other languages however hard I try. |

Have a great day all.

Great question.. up until recently I would've said yes but more and more people are shits as are their kids, houses get built on every blade of grass, laws do nothing that they're supposed to do, I don't trust politicians to sort it...my answer is a resounding NO |

Absolutely not.
Hate the lack of respect shown by those in power to the masses.
Hate these ferral little yobs who feel it's alright to smashing things up all the time.
I hate the fact that increasingly you see people chucking shite out of Windows doors, cars etc.....
Unfortunately at this present time I can't afford to get away from here.
The plan is 4 years and counting..... |

"Honestly starting to hate it more with every day and every anti-trans story I see. If it continues the way it is I'll have no choice but to leave."
Honestly just sending lots of love. That’s really awful to read. And I kinda get it but never to the same extent. Hopefully we can make it safer |

"Your all welcome to Ireland once your happy living the countrylife the way the Irish country people do. City folks are different " I would have to agree - the Ireland part. Country life is much more rewarding. |

Wild life here is good, more and more to be seen, even the red squirrel is making a come back " That what I enjoy. Waking up sometimes with a momma bear with thier cubs or deer and turkeys. Listening to the owls and the coyotes at night. The fireflies during the summer doing their dancing and lighting up the night. It's amazing and it's me. I love it. |

Generally not happy with the country, I’d start packing tomorrow if I got an offer to leave.
I applied for an international transfer with my last employer, unfortunately I got turned down because despite doing the senior engineer job for 9 months, it wasn’t my permanent role and they wanted “proven” senior engineers. |

"If it wasn't for Brexit we'd be living in Spain....so no
Did you vote for Brexit?
Brexit isn't stopping you from living in Spain. It might be stopping you from spending half the year in Spain..."
Brexit has made it a lot harder - and far more expensive - to move to Spain or any other European country. |
