This evening we had spam fritters.
Classy? No. But we fell into Iceland earlier this afternoon and there they were - we hadn't seen them in years, so we thought why not.
Now I'm very disappointed. They were fucking tiny. And way more expensive than when I last bought some.
Is this down to brexit or just standard inflation?
Has the cost of rearing a spam from birth to slaughter risen so much? Is it because we no longer import foreign spam and home grown is more costly?
Has anyone noticed anything else shrinking and getting more expensive simultaneously?

Maybe all the big spams are now being reared organically and too good for fritters. Maybe what you’re eating are battery spams.
And then there’s the cost of importing them from Iceland….
I used to buy big tins of it and slice it lengthwise to fry in the pan. Awesome! |

Tinned?
Shocking. Whatever happened to quality, organic, free range, spam that lived in the open air running wild and free?
Come to think of it.....maybe that's why these were smaller? They were of course frozen, coming from Iceland and the last time we had any they were fresh from Tesco's refrigerated section.
So you may be right.
Maybe they put all the really small, malnourished and sickly spam into tins, freeze the medium sized ones and it's only the large free range, 'happy' spam that get sold fresh.

"I'm always surprised when people down south say they shop at Iceland
I assume that anyone south of the Midlands shops exclusively at Waitrose "
Admittedly the MIL does frequent both Waitrose and M&S, but we're Asda or Aldi. We only nipped in Iceland as it was next to Maccies and as it was bloody hot yesterday we fancied a McFlurry.
We're not all posh down here Bussy - this is Somerset, not Torquay or St Ives. Living between Weston and Bridgwater is like being in a mid terrace in Shameless......

It's a two way thingy. Shrinking the item and raising the price achieving that optimum state where people accept without too much fuss. They have been doing it for a while, it seems to have worked |

Sent into Sainsbury's last week & on the list 30 Birds Eye fish fingers, found them but now 26 not 30.
We've stopped buying snacks as now reduced to 20g from 25g & previously 30g. Had wheat crunchies& it was 9 in the bag. |
