Can I ask what they have done to make Britain great again? As far as I can tell the country is still on its arse.

I second that, well said.

Sure there is a lot wrong with the UK but that has more to do with the long running and continuing saga of inept and self serving politicians and their wqually inept and short sighted civil service cosy chums who have really run the country to ruin.

But there is also a lot right with the UK as a safe place to live, well as safe as it can be conducive to freedom.

Not sure where that hundred of millions is going, certainly isnt being spent on the fucking appalling roads round the country, or tackling homelessness, negating the needs for food banks or various other problems. I'd be surprised if it makes it out of London and i'm fairly sure the same result could be achieved opening the numerous properties this family have the use of as tourist attractions.

Not quite sure how they're making Britain 'Great'- they can't even sort their own squabbles out

Well this thread went well!

In the meantime Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols has updated their classic ‘God Save The Queen’.

I enjoyed the 1970s.

In England, if you are healthy, there is no reason why one should not be able to live comfortably if one has not ben greedy, ie living hand to mouth becuse they want a lifestyle they can't afford

I've had problems in several jobs and getting the job EG, though difficult to prove, I felt there was an element of racisum especially 30 odd years ago. Thnakfully things have improved and more people are aware that choising the best person/s for the job will benefit the company.

I've been to Indian many times and their is racisum there, Eg you at times cant get certain jobs becuse you belong to a different relgion or caste but again people are seeing sense and the government for certai reasons have positive disrmination for certian jobs for many years and this has benefitted Indian

England is a safe and fair country compared to many and our royal family, the ones I mentioned are a credit to the people of England/UK.

I would love to meet our King and or William and family and if and when I do, it will feel as though I've won millions of pounds

The “hundreds of millions” are going towards supporting the Windsors and their hangers-on.

OK, they bring in money from dodgy share dealings and “gifts” in carrier bags, so not entirely parasites.

He is your King whether you like it or not - tough innit!

Why should a handful of protesters be allowed to spoil the day for thousands of people happy to enjoy a carnival atmosphere?

Arrest 'em all when their lack of consideration becomes a pain in the arse for others.

A true freedom for all is a freedom which tolerates peaceful protest but protects the quiet, well behaved majority.

Freedom carries it's own responsibilities, something many protesters conveniently forget when they disrupt other people going about their lawful lives - and then quote bollox about 'police state' 'their own - not any elses - just their own 'human rights'

Lock 'em all up and let the rest of us enjoy the freedoms we have without impediment from inconsiderate morons.

Thousands of people have suffered at the hands of the monarchy over the years, either directly or otherwise. They have caused wars, taken property( which they still have). They are still being given millions to do fuck all while people can’t afford to live decently and yet the public revere them.

Get real.

Ah the voice of moderation and reason chimes in.

When was the last time Britain was 'great'.

We delude ourselves, we once had an empire, and as the song goes we also ruled the waves, but that was quite a long time ago.

If you look at what we have become under this present administration, it would be possible to get us confused with some crakpot, corrupt, tin pot, little, third world country.

The only reason we're not a third world country is thanks to the victorians who gave us indoor plumbing. And that was only achieved off the backs of exploiting workers at home and abroad

When was the last time Britain was 'great'.

We delude ourselves, we once had an empire, and as the song goes we also ruled the waves, but that was quite a long time ago.

If you look at what we have become under this present administration, it would be possible to get us confused with some crakpot, corrupt, tin pot, little, third world country."

England has always been great just marred by some of the not so great people that live in it

Thousands of people have suffered at the hands of the monarchy over the years, either directly or otherwise. They have caused wars, taken property( which they still have). They are still being given millions to do fuck all while people can’t afford to live decently and yet the public revere them.

Get real. "

Millions more have died and suffered - and continue to die and suffer - think N Korea, China, Russia - and the countries they invade, occupy and disrupt.

All due to religion, despots, dictators, political extremists, communism etc etc, nothing to do with monarchy so to single out any monarchy as the sole cause of the world's woes is an untrue distortion.

Get real!

Yup, we are too privileged and entitled as a nation. The more I

look at other countries and monarchies the more I appreciate what we have. The charities they support and patron are incredible.

Surely it makes good business sense to spend 100-250 million on a coronation and boost the economy by 1 billion.

Anyway you will never change people's minds- growing up I was always saying what have they done for me etc but as I got older and read/watched more about our royal family the more I have grown to like and value them.

It makes me proud to be a Brit, Indian and have a royal family like ours.

The royal family earn the UK hundreds of millions and out King & Queen and William/Kate and family, plus Princess Ann and her family and Edward and Co are making Britian great again

God save the King."

No they don't. The Royals bring nothing and take everything. Tourists will still visit with or without them. It's not as if they come to the balcony at 3pm every day to make themselves seen is it?

Not sure where that hundred of millions is going, certainly isnt being spent on the fucking appalling roads round the country, or tackling homelessness, negating the needs for food banks or various other problems. I'd be surprised if it makes it out of London and i'm fairly sure the same result could be achieved opening the numerous properties this family have the use of as tourist attractions.

Not quite sure how they're making Britain 'Great'- they can't even sort their own squabbles out "

What makes our country great is the fact people are allowed to demostrate and shout/post abouse at our royal family in moderation and not go to jsoi unlike China/Korea/Russia/etc/etc

Obviously haven’t seen the news reports about people wanting to peacefully protest, but being arrested while actually doing nothing, committing no crime- just getting detained because someone made the decision that Chas getting his shiny hat is more important than the freedoms of the people who paid for the whole farce- despite him being more than financially capable of paying for his own ego stroking party

This country isn't on it arse because of royal family, they bring more to this country that people realise. People lack of respect is what makes Britain not great . Just because a place is public it is owned by someone, yet how often do you hear l am in public place so l can do as l please . Get a grip . A pub is public house but there's rules . I've lived in a few countries, and worked in a few more. Some are better at some things than the UK, but not all things. Some are far, far worse at all things. The UK is probably the least racist first world country I've lived in, the NHS is great if you can't afford private, but it's not the best free healthcare in the world. All in all, it's my favourite country so far.

ARTHUR: Old woman!

DENNIS: Man!

ARTHUR: Man. Sorry. What knight lives in that castle over there?

DENNIS: I'm thirty-seven.

ARTHUR: I-- what?

DENNIS: I'm thirty-seven. I'm not old.

ARTHUR: Well, I can't just call you 'Man'.

DENNIS: Well, you could say 'Dennis'.

ARTHUR: Well, I didn't know you were called 'Dennis'.

DENNIS: Well, you didn't bother to find out, did you?

ARTHUR: I did say 'sorry' about the 'old woman', but from the behind you looked--

DENNIS: What I object to is that you automatically treat me like an inferior!

ARTHUR: Well, I am King!

DENNIS: Oh, King, eh, very nice. And how d'you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers! By 'anging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. If there's ever going to be any progress with the--

WOMAN: Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here. Oh! How d'you do?

ARTHUR: How do you do, good lady? I am Arthur, King of the Britons. Who's castle is that?

WOMAN: King of the who?

ARTHUR: The Britons.

WOMAN: Who are the Britons?

ARTHUR: Well, we all are. We are all Britons, and I am your king.

WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective.

DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship: a self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes--

WOMAN: Oh, there you go bringing class into it again.

DENNIS: That's what it's all about. If only people would hear of--

ARTHUR: Please! Please, good people. I am in haste. Who lives in that castle?

WOMAN: No one lives there.

ARTHUR: Then who is your lord?

WOMAN: We don't have a lord.

ARTHUR: What?

DENNIS: I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week,...

ARTHUR: Yes.

DENNIS: ...but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting...

ARTHUR: Yes, I see.

DENNIS: ...by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs,...

ARTHUR: Be quiet!

DENNIS: ...but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major--

ARTHUR: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!

WOMAN: Order, eh? Who does he think he is? Heh.

ARTHUR: I am your king!

WOMAN: Well, I didn't vote for you.

ARTHUR: You don't vote for kings.

WOMAN: Well, how did you become King, then?

ARTHUR: The Lady of the Lake,...

[angels sing]

...her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur.

[singing stops]

That is why I am your king!

DENNIS: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

ARTHUR: Be quiet!

DENNIS: Well, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

ARTHUR: Shut up!

DENNIS: I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

ARTHUR: Shut up, will you? Shut up!

DENNIS: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system.

ARTHUR: Shut up!

DENNIS: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed!

ARTHUR: Bloody peasant!

DENNIS: Oh, what a give-away. Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about. Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn't you?

He won't be on the throne as long as his mother maybe 20 years.

I think when William and Kate take over I think they will bring back the popularity of the royal family. They are already doing a fantastic job

TBH, Wills & Kate should have become queen and king as they are not divorced nor cheated on their OH and don't make comments about talking to tress and amrrows and the like.

The royals should remain totally royal like RG, puppet the expectations of the Brtish public, ie been seen, smile, make polite non political comments, shae hands, more simles and get in to their big cars ready for the next act.

I do respect our king but ideally the crowns should have gone to kate and wills.

I don't think it works like that, there are processes and procedures to follow within the Monarchy even if the king agreed. The act of settlement states that the Monarchs direct heir succeeds to the throne, the Monarch has no political power so can't change law. Any abdication would need to be agreed by parliament.

Get real!

I never mentioned the world's woes. We are talking about Britain.

The British monarchy have always been in positions to alleviate suffering at all levels and have consistently refused to do so. "

Not sure i agree with that. Youd have to provide a bit of substance than emotional tidbits.

But id rather charles and william were running the show now than that fucker sunak and his cronies.

"There are quite a few here that need to give their heads a wobble. England is no longer the empire or superpower that you think it is. The shambles over the weekend just shows how out of touch England is with the rest of the world, what an embarrassment.

Alternatively people can just do their own thing, celebrate if want to, ignore it if not and just go about your extra day off.

Absolutely, people are perfectly entitled to show their arses if they want to, I perhaps wouldn't post it on a public forum but that's just me.

Why do you assume that everyone has a day off? My partner's work didn't recognise today as a bank holiday."

I mean it’s a swinging site, most people do show THEIR arses. You’ve got your tits out on a public forum so what’s the difference?

The fact the vast majority of the country had the day off makes it a fair assumption. Shame your fella didn’t, but I’m guessing you thought it was a good thing he didn’t given your thoughts on the day so no foul.

I can guarantee they do a lot more for charity than yourself. I’m sure they could do more, just as I’m sure you could.

Kingston upon Thames

We loved the community togetherness - more than 90 street parties, several concerts, a parade and a church service in the Royal Borough of Kingston. As a couple with strong connections to the forces and the "firm" we enjoyed being British in this inclusive way. x Anne & George

These people think they're superior to us by birth, ordained by god. Ridiculous and arrogant and no place for it in the 20th century in my opinion. And im pro union but the monarchy isn't for me

local, but not too local

Used it as an excuse to meet up with friends and family.

Only saw a bit of it - wasn’t the ceremony really strange? - mostly we were just chatting outside.

I really don’t feel the royals have covered themselves in glory recently, but this is a date in the historical diary. Haven’t had a coronation for 70 yrs, probably only get one more in my lifetime.

Just out of curiosity, did they make Liz strip behind a screen and get all piled up, or was that special for Chaz?

No ...the feeling of inferiority comes from your own insecurity, the Royal family don't think they are superior to anyone, it's simply a position they find themselves in being born into the family.

I'm reminded of the recent moment when Charlie couldn't work out how to move a pen when he signed up as King and got one of his lackies to sort it out for him. Nope, not entitled at all!

How do you know how they feel, and you don't know anything about me or wether im secure in myself or not. The ceremony calls for all subjects to declare loyalty and give service to their god ordained monarch. If they don't believe that then why have the service, why have it at all. I believe they do believe it, it's drummed into them from an early age. Im not blaming them for it, but they believe it alright. Anyway i was just expressing my right to have an opinion. I'll not be doffing my cap or diminishing myself by swearing subservience to them

Must be the reason i refer to them as the unelected, incumbent, Greek/German inbreds then?

They may think they are "superior by birth," and good luck to them if that is the case. However, I've met many people that think they are superior to most people and honestly, I could not give a flying F as I know my status and no mater if some downs or ups it, I know where I stand

Who refers to any one as commoners? When was the last time someone called you a commoner?

"Yup, we are too privileged and entitled as a nation. The more I

look at other countries and monarchies the more I appreciate what we have.

Actually bank holidays wipe millions off the GDP through economic inactivity: net loss (IFS)

Biggest royal tourist attractions in the world by visits are in France- remind me how did they handle their Royals for living off the fat of the land why their subjects suffered in poverty?

Did you not hear we royal subjects were asked to pledge allegiance?

Commoners is in daily use in our constitution to separate us from the aristocracy- westminster houses, for example, or tax law.
