Corduroy trousers…
Jump to: Newest in thread
So, a confession. I own a pair of brown cords, slim fit. Always a nice wear in the winter / autumn when I want to look smart-ish. Also I think they go well with a Levi’s denim jacket (as I never do double denim).
What’s everyone’s thoughts on cords? Are they geeky or chic? Or neither? Are they something your dad would wear?
Perhaps you think cords are ‘posh’ and worn by people who went to public school called Jeremy? I don’t think I’d ever get red cords but then who knows. I do think a nice beige corduroy blazer has a certain geography teacher sexiness about it (patches optional).
So… this is the thread to confess if you own a pair of cords (without judgement) and add any corduroy based anecdotes. Women, does a man wearing a nice fitting pair of cords get you hot under the collar?
Perhaps someone has a fetish for them like others do for PVC / Latex (although I’ve never heard of this or seen any photos of people in corduroy underwear)…

Good share, OP! I don’t have any at the moment, but would. Current stock is chinos and moleskins.
I don’t think it matters what you wear as long as it works for you and you own it. Stuff what everyone else thinks (unless it’s a tiger onesie). |

It depends.
I was always told that ‘If you were young enough to wear it when it was fashionable, then you’re too old to wear it for its revival’
Cut-off denim shorts with T-shirts and no bras are the exception, in my opinion |

I am a big fan of cords, currently have 5 pairs, 3 brown, 1 blue and 1 black and usually wear them all through the winter months. They are hard wearing and have excellent thermal properties.
They go well with my Tattersall shirts and T jackets and also my Doc Martens shoes.
I have to admit I am over 70 |

It depends in the style and the material. I've never been a fan of normal cord, that screams of baggy-kneed geography teacher trousers in a horrid dog bile colour to me. But, I have owned several pairs of needle cord fitted jeans in the past. And a few needle cord skirts. |

Could be wrong... |

I have a green and brown pair at the moment - both from Wrangler because they normally fit! The brown came a bit large around the waste though - how do you shrink these?
I've been looking for advice online, but if anything they seem to get larger when I wash them. -pt |

What an absolute load of rubbish about “cords” being well dated & staple diet of over 70’s. I’m 58,was a “ football casual” in the 80’s. “ Lois cords “ were the nuts, looking at investing in a pair again re one of these retro sites. Nearly brought a Paul Smith pair the other week but didn’t have my size |

Corduroys are currently having a resurgence, and quite right too! Even GQ posted an article about it back in January.
Regardless, if you wear them well and coordinate them with Chukkas and knitwear then it's all good. |

"Hersham boys apparently liked to wear them with laced up boots... " just watched a video and the guitarist seems to be wearing a travelodge curtain tunic so you can’t really say that you invented the travelodge fashion range and your not fabs answer to Vivienne Westwood |

I've been told that on many an occasion.
The only thing I will not wear is the weight of other people's expectations |

"They’ve had a few revivals , I’m sure they will be trendy again before too long "

The last time I uttered the word "trendy" my young son laughed me out of the living room.
I would save you the same fate MrHotNotts with your daughter/s.
I now use now suitably contemporary (and non embarrassing) terminologies. |

I’ve 3 pairs bought on a shopping trip when I was meant to be buying denim jeans. 1 black 1 burgundy red 1 navy.
I think they look smart, though not sexy as such and they are very warm in winter months so as I’m in Scotland that’s useful.
I’ve never really been one for following fashion “rules” but I do like to look smart and stylish.
I wear them with nice sweaters and boots.
Everyone should find their own style that suits them and their personality (I’m something of a hippy at heart so cords suit that vibe) and be comfy in their own skin. |

My needlecord corduroy trousers used to be my most favourite of clothes but it is hard to find them in a shape I like now. I would wear them in a heartbeat. Same for cream cord jodhpurs, I lived in them for about 10 years (the occassional wash) but I cant find them anywhere now either. And I like the geography teacher look in a man. I wouldnt be scared off. |

"I have a pair of beautiful light blue trousers I don't wear often enough. Lovely flare too
"
--Cords with a low flare are awesome. I know a woman in her eighties who was given those by her daughter. A sort of purply colour. They just look so good. --pt |

I spent a good portion of my high school years in those
Just proves they are timeless. But you need a certain spirit to rock them. |

Oooohhh, I just remembered my calf length navy cord skirt I used to wear with my beautiful coloured snags and boots (the brighter my tights the happier I am). I've lost abit of weight since then and all I wear is boring jeans now |
