no spitfires found in burma, so disapointed, would have been the greatest find in this and last century, been following this story for the last 6 months,as a hgv driver was going to offer my services to bring them home where they would have belonged |

"Damn! I was hoping they would be there. I saw and heard one fly over Beachy Head and the engine sound made the hairs stand up. Magnificent. "
the RR merlin is without doubt one of the most iconic sounds..
unless you were a Luftwaffe pilot of course.. |

Instantly recognisable & thrilling to hear.
Was laid in bed about 18 months ago on a Sat morning & heard a Spit above. Shot downstairs n outside to find one circling overhead, so low you pick pick out the distinction beween the pilots head & head rest, before it disappeared over a low hill, much to my chagrin.
Later found it was at a local eveny & must have been killing a couple of mins to arrive on time. Awesome noise!! |

"Yes, sad. But there's a firm building 90% size flying replicas so all is not lost.
Why stop at 90%......wouldn't it be worth going the extra 10%?
"
Theres a recession on! Everything is suffering from cutbacks

Lets hope the 10% doesn't equate to the propellors or they will never get off the ground..... |

Given the issues the one at East Mids had with landing, they may last longer!
I saw that flying about in the sky 10 minutes before its undercarriage dropped off! |

I read this story and the spitfires are there but someone involved in the search said they were digging in the wrong place. The Spits were not assembled and in crates so they'll be in pristine condition and eyewitness accounts have told them where to dig. The cynic in me is thinking that the Burmese officials know the value of these aircraft if they can locate them. |

It does seem a bit pointless not to build it to full scale if they're going to 90% already. Maybe there is some sort of caveat from the RAF that says they can't build a full scale Spit. |

There are a number of aviation related forums and the general view from those "in the know" is that this was a wild goose chase motivated by rumour whilst factual accounts of people there at the time were ignored. |
