"Football is a business, the players are amongst the clubs main assets, therefore they are worth what the club are willing to pay them in order to carry out their business."

Why the need to show loyalty as you come up to the end of a contract of employment?
That's exactly why footballers have contracts, it protects both parties, if the club are not satisfied with the performance of the player they are free to either sell him or not renew his contract.....if the player is not satisfied with his working conditions or pay then he is equally free to leave the club or negotiate an improved contract extension.
Loyalty?......Why? |

"just wish the dude wouldnt be so greedy and sign already -.-"
Nope They all think they deserve the money but its immoral just because there is tv sponsorship involved. It takes an average worker 4 years to earn that ... so it says a footballer is 200 times more valuable that someone who works 9 to 5
Olympians who get admired rather than sneered are normally on the bread line...
So is that fair ? |

As a season ticket holder at the Arsenal since I was a young schoolboy I've got to say Theo is the most overrated player ever , his first touch is normally useless and his second worse , he only flatters to deceive because of his pace !!
Out of the six young British players to have signed long term contracts with the club I'm more excited about the other five then Theo ! |

Football clubs have two main assets....
Their ground/stadium if they own it
Their playing and coaching staff
It's all relative, if a club like Arsenal are paying a top player 100k and a club like Torquay are paying a top player 1k then it's relative to their income.
It's just business, nothing more nothing less |

"no footy player worth 100 k a week
NONE of them are worth £100k a week. Maybe £100k a YEAR is a different story, but even then its for kicking a bloody ball !!!!! Time the paying public woke up to being robbed blind if they want to go watch a game. Rich. "
Pssst.....it's not compulsory to go and watch or match, nor is it compulsory to sign up to Sky Sports.

Although I agree 100 grand a week is a stupid amount of money for anyone to earn…,,,As a cash cow for the UK taxman its does not seem such a bad thing!!!
Theo on 52 weeks at 100K = 5200000 per year before tax
But as suggested earlier that equates to employing over 208 people on a annual salary of £25K
However £5200000 after tax at 45% = generates £2340000 for HMRC
According to HMRC the average annual combined Income tax and NI contribution on an annual salary of £25K is approximately £5,467.
So 208 people paying approximately £5,467 only generate a combined £1137136 for HMRC
So unless I've got my information and/or my maths wrong,,,,
Theo will pay roughly twice as much income tax into our exchequer than the combined income tax and National Insurance contribution of 208 people on 25k per year….
My point ?,,,,,,
None really, apart from you can’t field a football team with 208 players in it…!
PS, If I've fucked up with the information or the maths,,,, just ignore everything above….!.

Although i agree that footballers are paid too much...and my reason is more out of the passion etc that £££££ undoubtedly dillutes, we have to remember that footballers are supreme athletes who are highly skilled and there are many people in other professions that get paid silly money for being the best in their field....
Whether u see or undestand hhe skills and athleticism and appreciate it probably depends on your footballing ability and or experience....
Golfers get paid millions for 4 days work..... |

"Golfers get paid millions for 4 days work....."
Are you sure about that? I know golf pros and they are out in all types of weather at all hours to perfect a tiny aspect of their game that they feel is lacking.
Any top sportsperson lives, thinks and breathes their sport as they are that passionate about it. Footballers are no different and if you go and watch a Sunday league team playing on a cold December morning you'll see them just as passionate about the match they lay in as the top players are in their games. The difference is there is a world of skill between the two, hence why the best earn the top money. |
