I will be going - and I have been several times before
I find it way more incusive and accepting than pride and far less corporately sponsored, which is always a bonus
The atmosphere is fun without being overwhelming
This year is extra important too, as my friend has a child who is just starting their journey of transition
Acceptance and support and visibility are increasingly important
We seem to be in that awkward phase where trans folk are pushing the CIS alarm every 5 minutes
That said, a lot of LGB people also have an issue with trans folk too
I will go and I will have fun
If I can piss off the odd Daily Mail reader or Gay Conservative in the process, even better |

Can I also say Jennie, if you haven't booked already, get summat reserved
Manchester hotel rooms are not cheap at the weekend, especially if you want to stay central
I'm sure there used to be FB groups where people hooked up for room / apartment sharing if you are amenable to that kinda thing |

I have been to the last three Sparkle events and agree, the hotel rooms do book up quickly. Friday and Saturday are very busy around the village, especially in the garden as I ended up queuing last time.
Hotels, any of the chains I have stayed at the Britannia and it’s a bit of a dump to be honest, can get quite hot in the rooms especially in July, terrible if you’re wearing a wig and makeup. So try for one of the budget hotels like the Travelodge.
Manchester City Centre is used to seeing us around that weekend so it’s a great time to be outside dressed for the first time. You basically, especially in the village itself, blend into the background.
I would recommend it for new dressers or experienced girls for going out and socialising, Molly’s has a Tgirl band who play every year on a Friday night and the clubs are full of us partying.
Unfortunately Napoleons has now shut down, that was a great venue for later in the evening/ morning but there’s still plenty of other venues.

I've popped in before, but this year is special as we are taking our now legal nephew and his mum
(I mean he's now legally able to drink, and is interested in such things... he introduced himself to us 4 or so years ago but wasn't interested in sparkle or pride) |

"Is it a xmas thing "
Nooooo ... Google [Sparkle 2023] it's an annual Trans Pride in Manchester, this year 7-9 July.
I know why Kat would think it's "grim" because you can get too much of a "good" thing.
I find the baby-doll dresses with bulges in all the wrong places a bit much at lunchtime, in public, with children around.
Have style and decorum ladies... and enjoy! |

Went a few years ago before covid ..and not been back..it wasn't that amazing.. I've been to Manchester other times and enjoyed it more than sparkle time..it probably didn't help it was one of the hottest days of that year. though I don't really like any festival type things I get bored too easily.. |

Have you been?
Where is a good place to stay?"
For god sake what is it with you
People matching about prancing all over the place i see now we know why you were getting a new wig .
But if you do go maybe you could stop off on the way in leeds and we can get a coffee my friend . |

I'll be there! My first time but I've been wanting to go for years.
I have a hotel just off canal st and I'm looking forward to a weekend of looking pretty, meeting new people, having a dance and hopefully hooking up with one or two people from here |

I absolutely love Sparkle. It's the highlight of my year.
It's a completely free event. I believe it's the only Trans Inclusive event there is in the UK.
I make new friends every year.
I love seeing and meeting so many people. It is such diverse event and I love seeing how different everyone's outfits are.
Premier Inn or Britannia Hotel are both about 5mins walk away. |
