I'm looking at going away for a week, I'm just not sure where to go.i would like to stay in England and i know I don't want to go to Cornwall/Devon ( i grew up there). Blackpool, Skeggy or any place like them are a definite no no.
People of the forum, please tell me nice places to stay around your area.

The Cotswolds and Lake District are always a safe choice.
Beautiful places and some great restaurants |

"Holidays in England?are they really holidays?
I think they are classed as holidays "
Everywhere in England looks the same to me unless you go Scotland and you can see mountains or seaside and see different type of buildings and the sea of course
Thats why I am going to the filmfestival in France…join me if you like |

If that's the case, you're not looking very hard. |

Someone likes to live dangerously! Where have you been in England, to come to that conclusion?! |

I came from the outskirts of north London, on the boarders of essex and hertfordshire... plenty of nice places around there. Waltham Abbey is still quite nice, and Hertford town, my rellies are there. The premier inn on Sewardstone Road is ok. You can access lots of touristy places if you want them, but its away from the city centres enough to be restful if not.
Failing that, come to Pembrokeshire... Tenby is nice if you want fun times, Lower town Fishguard if you just want to chill. Lots of places to stay, ask the tourist information for help if you need to maybe? |

Yes they are, when you look in the right places you'll find some notable gems.
Yes they are because not everyone has the means to travel overseas to (potentially) lacklustre destinations. |

Cromer, Norfolk
Pickering, Yorkshire
Bude, Cornwall
Criccieth, North Wales
Barmouth, North Wales
Loads of places in the Lake District

Understandable. I struggle to differentiate between say the towering chalk cliffs of the South Coast, the rolling hills, fields and woodlands of Kent, the grassy downs of southern England, the craggy mountains of Cumbria, the golden beaches, granite cliffs and turquoise sea of Cornwall and the heather clad moors of Yorkshire. |

Depends are you looking for coast, city or something else?
Coast I would head to Northumberland, look around seahouses or bamburg.
If that's too north somerset has some lovely quiet beaches
City I would say York,Harrogate or Durham for North of the country
Or Bath for the south
Peak district is lovely with some nice towns to visit such as bakewell, Matlock and Buxton. |

It might be because of my upbringing, but the excitement that people have about going to a crowded place with hot weather and a pool - I don't get it. I'd rather see culture, explore, etc. Weather is just weather.
(To each their own, of course, but if we're going to shit on holidays in the UK, it's worth noting that not everyone wants the stereotypical package holiday either. I couldn't think of much worse) |

"Peak district - go walking and be away from everything for awhile.
I do want to be away from everything, so this sounds ideal"
If you want real solitude then I'd suggest mid Wales - probably the wildest least inhabited part of the UK south of the Scottish border. |

Pick a route to visit some of Englands best but rural castles,, road trip style holiday,,
Surely you will find some cracking spots by doing so.
Reach out to The north face or Columbia before you go and buy good rain gear |

I have to agree. For such a small country there is the most incredible diversity of landscape, flora and fauna you could wish for largely due to our location. Stunning beaches in Northumbria and north Norfolk. Beautiful coastline in South Cornwall. The Peak District, Lake District, Cotswolds, South Downs, the Yorkshire Dales. And no I don't work for the English Tourist Board |

Years ago I ran past an old farmhouse in Mid Wales that had clearly been recently re-renovated but was in the absolute middle of nowhere. I've kept an eye on it and it's now a holiday let. I think the nearest road - which is an unfenced single track lane - is roughly 4 miles drive along stoney tracks with another 10 miles or so to get to Aberystwyth which is the nearest large town. I'd like to stay there one day and winter would be perfect. The never ending sea of waving golden grass lashed by wind and hail has a bleakness that appeals - perhaps its my bleak soul |

All right you won…I have seen the most of them and driving pass Stonehenge even to the hellfire caves…and ofc everywhere you can see sightseeing’s, till you get there?and most importantly I wasn’t alone.every town road are almost the same or you need to travel a lot miles to change view and go back again to the civilisation, to learn the culture of the local people or traditions?Brighton has identity like the gay city or more open minded people to word it better.other than that? And most importantly you must hit a sunny day otherwise it’s monochrome like a 60 movie.Well it’s only my point of view maybe I had wrong “tourist guide” at the time. |

The Wye valley is lush, you have rural landscape have activities on the Wye. You have top notch restaurants, Hay on Wye is a lovely place for a nosey around, especially if you like bookshops. And there are a few castles and Tintern Abbey which is stunning. |
