Those in the know, any reason why someone who gives you a telephone no would insist on whatsup only and not sms? Is it a safety thing or something? Excuse my ignorance please.

You can spoof a number for WhatsApp. Means that if you get a psychotic stalker who only has that number you can burn it and keep them away.

Most people don't bother unless it's been a problem they've had previously.

What I am really asking is should I worry in any way that they asked I send message through WhatsApp only and no sms as apparently they can't accept that? It just sounds strange a little to me and I am naturally suspicious of these thingsc

They may be using a foreign sim card that costs to text or call. WhatsApp is free.

Don't feel obliged to do anything you're not comfortable with. If they've asked you kot to use SMS, then don't use SMS. But if you don't want to use the other options, you don't have to.
