So what does everybody believe to be the best etiquette when sending winks?
Reading many, many profiles on FAB I have found either people absolutely hate them or it’s always a good starting point.
What’s your personal preference? |

If someone keeps looking at me and I notice it, I read their profile, if I like it - I wink.
I think of it as an approximation of eye-contact. I find that's how some women seek to engage in real life.
I appreciate people who are adept at non-verbal communication. |

Rarely look at them but when we do we mostly find it’s from people who are so far away from what we’re looking for that we don’t understand why they have bothered. We find that if people are what we are looking for they tend to message rather than wink |

Winks are handy. Give a chance to check them out, without the issue of reading a shit message.
Some people simply find it difficult to introduce themselves. A wink it a starting point.
I have met a handful of people over the years, who really struggle to make initial contact for 1 reason or another. They are otherwise fantastic people!!
But like messages, women probably get a dissproportionate amount, so get why it could be a ball ache!! |

As a single male, I don’t get winks so it’s a nice surprise to get ones and makes my day tbh. I guess if you get hundreds like some women it’s not that special so I get why a lot don’t like them |

"I will always send a wink if I like the look of a profile and if I'm interested ,
Xx"
I do this….but I can appreciate how in effective they can be to the more popular profiles!! |

I (R) tend to do most of Fab participation at the moment. I read profiles, and if it’s mentioned winks are ok, or if nothing has been mentioned about winks, I will wink if we are interested in them. But it’s rare I do send any winks . It’s rare I message to at the moment .
We are very open to receiving winks and do find it breaks the ice a little before a message. We will wink back if interested in talking . |

We like the wink system, it's a good way of testing someone's interest before sending a message. It's not lazy it just saves everyone time, we don't want to read 300 messages from guys we're not interested in!
If you wink us, and we like your profile we'll send a message... And we appreciate the same as opposed to just winking back lol
Not sure why people get annoyed with them tbh |

I like a good wink, it gives me the opportunity to check out a new profile, if interested I'll wink back if I'm short of time instead of replying.
It's also my sneaky ass way of gauging if we're interesting to others if I send one first.

We don't mind winks and simply see them for what they are...an expression of interest.
If we wink back then we do think a message will be forthcoming, but that does not always seem to be the case (which makes us wonder why wink in the first place)! |

"What do you think would be a good replacement? "
A Facebook style 'thumbs up' maybe?
Personally don't have an issue with the wink system, I think its a great 'ice breaker' and like the FB thumbs up, is a way of saying 'I like your post' the wink is simply saying 'I like your profile' and they can then choose to make contact or not. No biggie if they don't. But it's better than 100s of unread messages, many of which just say 'hi' or ' i love your profile'. |

I like them, some hate them. Regardless of what you do or what you change there will always be those that won't like it
Leave things as they are, it works, if it ain't broke why fix it |

I like a wink, giving and receiving. I feel it sparks interest, if I get one and I like the look of the profile I wink back.... Although I do think that may be followed up with a message but doesn't always seem to be. |

Prefer winks, someone likes my profile and sends a wink ...I check out their profile and if I like it I wink back then they send me message simple really ...
Messages are just tedious and I clearly say on my profile not to message |

I forget winks exist so rarely check mine. But when I'm interested in someone I tend to wink to see if I get one back. Recently went to wink someone to find they had beaten me to it and winked me already. I should have messaged but winked instead. |

If people wink us we wink back or send a message. We wink people to show we’re interested without sending a message as it can be a bit brutal seeing the read messages and not getting a reply.
That being said we don’t get a million messages a day like some people do so I can completely understand why they would miss winks entirely.

I don't think anyone ever knows what the wink function is actually for.. its just one of those mysteries of the world I suppose.. almost up there with the pyramids in Egypt or pineapples on pizzas |

There is no etiquette. Hi have people wink at me ,I either wink make or send a message. Either the message gets ignored or they block me.
Sadly I think a lot of people on here are completely screwed up |

If people wink us we look at the profile and if we see potential for chat we reply ‘thanks for the wink’ |

Ngl. I send wink as like a... hello. Fancy it? Then hopefully they'll wink back or message me. Might be lazy bit I don't chuck em out and generally only wink people I've chatted to on cams or forums as like a "that flirting was just for the thread" |

We use them a fair bit, and can be a sign of interest for those that aren't so extroverted, let's face it typing that first message, trying to think what to put so that it doesn't get rejected etc and trying to sell yourself can be unnerving, I'm mean how many messages do people delete daily because they've ballsed it up |

"I don’t think I’ve ever responded to a wink.
And I’m a boy!!! Obviously I get very few views and even fewer messages, but I still find winks lazy and pointless."
Oooh. Lazy and pointless! That's basically me!
I winked you |

Ok, so I’ve now responded to one wink because a sexy smart arse (who shall remain nameless) has winked. |

The first message is always hard and in my experience sometimes not getting a reply. But onwards and upwards |

"I only wink when I have read a really great profile, it's my way of saying I enjoyed reading it"
Interesting take, I've received a wink twice from the same person. In my current Fab naivety, I assumed that meant she's interested and messaged her, no reply at all lol. Interesting to see what certain aspects mean to different people, still learning how this site works lol |

"I like a little wink it's a good way to break the ice, if I wink and someone winked back I'd message.

Agreed. It's a nice way to show you like someone's profile without filling up their inbox, and if you get one back who knows... |

One can wink all day long!!
Real actions say it all.
People make time and do for what they only need and require! Its about them! Not for you!!
Its way deeper than we really think!! |

I don't mind them, i do always yhank yhose who send them, and i do send them myself but a lot of people don't like them so i never expect any sort of acknowledgement.. to me its just exactly what it says, just a wink. |

"Think they are pretty good way of saying “we like what we see, check us out”
We always check them and see if we want to wink back "
Agreed. That's the beauty of them. I know many people get too many messages, sometimes for me sending a wink is like saying "I know you're bombarded by messages, but here's a little wink to test the water, see if you'd be up for getting a message". But I know people don't see that. A wink is like making eye contact in a club, a little smile or something that says "come and chat" - if only it was used that way. |
