I don`t think anyone should me an MP until they have worked in the real world for at least ten years,NOT straight out of uni.

I’d kinda like to extend that to teachers too……
I just feel it would help equip them with the extra social skills that would ultimatly help prepare kids for life in the real world…. ...
Although I'm sure heaps of people would disagree....
But I'm I bovvered?,,,, nah!!! not a bit of it!!   |

William Hague and Ed Miliband to name two. figures released by the labour party last year indicate that around 25% of MP`s never had a full time job before they were elected. |

How does someone living on £50k a year know what it's like for someone living on £20k a year or lower?
They should pay MPs the same rate of pay as an average full time worker. Those that don't like it can fuck off into different business. Would leave more seats for people who know how the majority of the country are living. |

They don't become MP's straight out of Uni. They become researchers, private secretaries or speech writers for MP's first.
So essentially they majority only know politics and nothing of working life. And of the small percentage that have had a 'real' job, I imagine it's not with a salary where they are struggling to make ends meet. Possibly working for daddy or one of his friends even. |

You are completely wrong about Ed Miliband.....why not research before stating something as a fact? |

I don't have a particular axe to grind not being a teacher but why would you imagine that teachers don't live and work in the real world?
I do sort of know where you're coming from but teachers go to work every day, have families, go to Tesco (other supermarkets are available), pay their gas bill etc.
I know that the academic world can seem sheltered and the long holidays are a bone of contention for many but there are loads of teachers in secondary schools and FE colleges who are very good at preparing kids for the "real" world but are constrained by league tables and results driven targets. |
