I've just been reading about smart highways that glow in the dark that are to be constructed on Holland next year. The centre road markings and edges will be painted in a foto-luminising powder that stores sunlight energy during the day and glow for up to 10 hours at night. The road surface will also have dynamic paint that will only become visible when the ambient temperature is low. As such, ice symbols will appear to warn motorists that the surface may be slippery. And that will only be the beginning. Later generations of Smart Highway will have interactive lights that will spring to life when vehicles approach them, then switch-off when the road is empty.
What a fookin great idea! |

"What about the dumb drivers though?"
Well, you can't legislate for them but at least the reliance is no longer upon manufacturers to make safer cars. Later versions of smart highways will include induction priority lanes that will recharge electric cars as they drive over them. |

One day they will have like just one single road that is really smart and it takes you anywhere you need to go. it will probably use some sort of tube technology.
They will then turn all the old non smart stupid roads into fields and shit. |

I've always wondered how the road knows where I'm going. |

Yup so great that the M25 will be glowing all night, but drivers will be unable to to drive safely on the B3047 cos it's made of standard tarmac
My new bike has an air temperature gauge on it, so that I know when it is cold! strange thing is it makes me feel colder the whole world is going to be overflowing with pointless signs that tell us what we already know |

My car switches the lights on when its dark and the wipers when it rains.
If you forget to switch your lights on, then maybe you need to pay more attention. |

"They can't repair the fooking pot holes round my way. God knows how they would maintain a smart road !
Smart roads fix themselves... and can make tea. "
There better be a jaffa cake or a bourbon involved too |

I saw something on this last week and another part of the concept is that roads could be heated so that ice thaws - all clever stuff but as a few have said, it still won't legislate for the ones who forget to be smart themselves or who drive like nutters anyway. |
