Brilliant! I knew it wouldn't take long...valley is correct...Claude Duval was the highwayman..duval French for valley.

Have to come up with a trickier one

Penrith had a canning industry, Steinbeck wrote Cannery Row - let me guess, did St Austell have a fish cannery? sardines or somesuch?
