So last night I noticed my leg was itching and still is and I have a raised mole that feels tender if I touch it. Pretty sure it wasn't there before and I know definitely wasn't raised if it was.

Anyone else had this and should I get it checked or wait a bit? I'd say it's pretty symmetrical but not completely.

GET IT CHECKED. Better safe than sorry. Just finished breast cancer treatment and I've got a good 5 year survival chance because I got checked as soon as I felt the lump. Also, possibly dont ask medical advice from random swingers good luck x

Get it checked dude. First step might be calling NHS24 and letting them tell you to go get it checked.

If it turns out to just be an insect bite, we can all laugh.

If it’s something nasty, you’ll be glad you got it checked straight away.

Like everyone else has said get it checked. If your GP surgery works the same way as mine they will ask for some photographs of it to be sent by e-mail.

I did the recently and I was then referred to medical photography.

NORWAY Wherever I lay my hat

PD get it checked. I had one that worried me but I convinced myself it was OK so left it. Got itchy and crusty. Finally went to my GP after 2 years. Then it appeared to get better so I nearly cancelled the dermatology appointment that I had to wait another 4 months for as I was sure I was wasting their time. Was told it's a carcinoma that needs urgently removing. I still don't know the impact of my prevarication. Moral of this tale is... Don't fuck about with your health. It is probably nothing or it could be something that will be fine if you catch it soon enough. Contact your GP in the morning x

I wouldn't think anything of it if wasn't raised, itchy and tender "

So I discovered that moles can appear at any time. I'm overly cautious because I have had a Basel Cell Carcinoma (the none malignant skin cancer) removed from my arm.

I started with a tender itchy lump that turns into a smooth round brown mole over about a week.

Made an appointment with my doc and was given the all clear and was reassured that they can happen the itch, tenderness etc was all normal and given it was smooth and pretty symmetrical it was all good.

I wouldn't think anything of it if wasn't raised, itchy and tender

So I discovered that moles can appear at any time. I'm overly cautious because I have had a Basel Cell Carcinoma (the none malignant skin cancer) removed from my arm.

I started with a tender itchy lump that turns into a smooth round brown mole over about a week.

Made an appointment with my doc and was given the all clear and was reassured that they can happen the itch, tenderness etc was all normal and given it was smooth and pretty symmetrical it was all good. "

I'll find out soon myself, I have lots of small normal looking ones but this one is bigger

I'm covered head to toe in freckles and some are moles, i've had them since I was little but some have changed shape/ colour /become raised and much bigger, I got referred to the hospital to get them checked out as my dad had skin cancer a while ago and was made to feel like I was wasting their time, I was told straight away that they couldn't remove them for cosmetic purposes when the thought hadn't even crossed mu mind, I came out being told I was fine but at the same time feeling like a complete idiot.

"So last night I noticed my leg was itching and still is and I have a raised mole that feels tender if I touch it. Pretty sure it wasn't there before and I know definitely wasn't raised if it was.

Anyone else had this and should I get it checked or wait a bit? I'd say it's pretty symmetrical but not completely. "

Get it checked. There’s a mole checking service at boots that’s fast and affordable. Alternatively go to your gp and they’ll refer you to a skin clinic, but that takes a while (took me 3 weeks).

Deffo get it looked at, but also don’t panic. The majority of the time it’s nothing. Good luck

The fact it is raised is enough reason to get it checked. I had one on my back and I noticed one day it was raised and yes it ended up being cancerous. And I had it removed it and spread at that point and I had to have more skin removed but I was lucky it had spread out and not in. If I had left it longer it could easily have started to spread inwards and would have been a lot more serious. So yes go get it checked out asap.

Go and get it checked. I say this as someone who's had skin cancer, mine was basal cell, so not a mole. But still very serious.

Definitely Doctors they can refer you or just freeze it off . I just had an itchy mole frozen off my leg and I have had several Basel cell marks removed.

Ole man recently had two cut off, one ended up being melanoma wasn’t black we hadn’t realised they could be brown and not angry they went in twice last cut was 28 stitches across shoulder. He now gets checked every 3 months.

Don’t ignore any moles only takes a few minutes in the skin clinic

Just call NHS24. It’s only a phone call. They’ll talk through the symptoms with you and if they reckon it’s a mole that needs looking at they’ll get you straight in to see someone, same day. You don’t even need to call your GP - they’d make the appointment for you.

Medically trained staff, like your Doctor, will take a couple of minutes to determine if safe or needs further investigation. Get it checked.

Also, try to get someone to look at your back regularly, as we don't see them easily

"Will had one on his stomach, they scooped it out and stitched him up at his appointment, doctor said he didn’t want to take any chances, results came back clear but always better to be safe about your health, plus stops the worry, I’m sure all will be tickety boo for you x

You'd think they would be able to just take a little bit to test instead of just cutting it all off.

Yeah I'm hopeful everything will be ok x

They'll probably take it all, I had one removed from my face that slowly grew over the years from a tiny mark to about half a cm and raised, if I didn't point out the scar you wouldn't know I had anything removed. All done under local and took minutes x

T x

Yeah they always take it all, it's only about the size of a pencil rubber anyway and on the outside of my thigh "

They had to go in a 2nd time for Oleman.. first time wasn’t wide enough margins as they found it to be melanoma. That wasn’t expected . 28 stitches in the end . They monitor him every 3 months now .

Good luck with the procedure.

They take it all because it's potentially dangerous to poke a cancer and release cancer cells into the bloodstream. And because it's probably relatively small, it can safely be removed with margins and if it did turn out to be malignant, they've already done the removal procedure and no need to do things twice. It's obvious a bit different if the choice is remove your liver or not, vs a bit of skin.

Same argument for whipping out the thyroid if it grows stuff on it. You can easily live without the thyroid, thanks to simple replacement meds, so it's actually safer just to take it out and test the whole thing.

"I'm covered head to toe in freckles and some are moles, i've had them since I was little but some have changed shape/ colour /become raised and much bigger, I got referred to the hospital to get them checked out as my dad had skin cancer a while ago and was made to feel like I was wasting their time, I was told straight away that they couldn't remove them for cosmetic purposes when the thought hadn't even crossed mu mind, I came out being told I was fine but at the same time feeling like a complete idiot. "

You can if you go to a dermatological ABE get him to note that you catch them when dressing etc and that they cause you a lot of distress. That’s enough in his notes to get out the small scalpel under Nhs rules. But if they are being tight just book a private appointment

-If it's small and soft and even then it's likely nothing. The tenderness and raised quality is probably caused by whatever is making you itch. It's often surprising what we haven't noticed, or seems to have just appeared with age.

Is there anything else you want to ask the GP? They'll probably ask, so it's good the be prepared for that. pt

-They always do that, even when they remove it as a hindrance, so try not to worry about that too much.. Good luck though. pt
