England will storm it this year. Lancaster took a whole chapter or 3 from Gatlands book (instead of a page or 2), got rid of the old guard (mostly), replaced them with fit hungry youngsters and they have been playing a blinder recently. Wales with no Gatland, big injuries and a poor summer will be lucky to finish top 3 this time round.
Oh well, we will rebuild and come back better next year

I used to play to a fairly good standard both at school and for Derby Colts (no 14), but the Irish have a resilience and still have the basis of a good team.
England can beat anyone on their day but are a bit hit or miss.
Anyone's guess but I won't be putting my mortgage on the Italians or the Scots |

It will be a tough one this year.
France - every year they put out quality squads and every year they play like a yo-yo. Trouble is you can never tell which side is going to turn up; the side that almost beat the AB's in the WC Final, or the side which could be beaten by a Championship side.
England - not too bad in the Autumn internationals. Lancaster and his team have done a superb job, but the question is who will play 10? They'll need more than Pens/Cons to win the Grandslam.
Ireland - oh poor Ireland. Form hasn't been there recently, and a lot of their players are coming to the ripe old age of retirement. They should be contenders, especially as Ulster/Leinster/Munster are performing well in H Cup and Rabo 12. Guess it will depend on training camps.
Wales - should have been the best team in the world last year. Alas injuries and bans took their toll. With their top 4 choice Locks out with injury their line outs will be key. Some good players coming back to the side, e.g. Byrne. Need to find the fire they had the last few years (coming back to beat Scotland at home) and they could do it.
Scotland - my team. Always optimistic, but never on for a title this year. A great tour down under last year and performed well in the first 30mins vs AB's in Autumns, but can't hold on to top flight teams when they are on form. Need to close out games when n the lead, e.g. Wales, but also need to score tries.
Italy - must applaud their performances over the last few years. They grow every year and should pull out a few surprises here and there. Need to desperately find a solid 70/80% kicker though as has lost them games previously. Scrapping for bottom again unfortunately.
Prediction:
1. England
2. France
3. Wales
4. Ireland
5. Scotland
6. Italy
No Grandslam though. |
