Interested to know what people on the forum think the perfect veg is and how they use it. Is it a simple potato and its versatility to make chips, mash and roasties?

Or maybe a nice firm carrot? There is a certain je ne sais quoi - oh, so very special - about a firm, young carrot…

Please share your favourite veg here and the reasons why…

Op.

I’m a sweetcorn fan… but it doesn’t go with everything.

So it has to be tha mighty po-tay-toe.

You can boil them. Mash them, stick em in a stew.

Depends on the intended purpose OP.

Obvs the potato is a veg of wonder for it's diverse applications in the culinary world - from the humble jacket potato, to thick cut deep fried chips, dauphinoise, croquettes, those little potato footballs you can get at asda, cheesy mash, gratin and a world of alternatives. It's an amazing thing!

But if you're looking for something to shove up your chuff you may be best served by a butternut squash. ??

There are plenty of more useful vegetables in terms of versatility and as ingredients; but for sheer personal pleasure, I love a bowl of green Petit Pois with a dab of butter melted over them.

The humble potato in all its various forms is number 1 in our house. The rest to varying degrees are carrots, parsnips, sweetcorn, mushrooms and onions.

your wildest dreams,

Has to be either onion or garlic for the pure fact that missing either from dishes would be a disaster but my veg of choice would be Cavello Nero
