Recently when popping to the supermarket I've noticed I often get served by the same lady...40 something, on the market stall counter. Anyway she wears black jeans every time as her uniform. I think she has great legs, question is should I tell her as a compliment or is it weird ? |

It's interesting isn't it? If we do see someone we fancy and want to chat to, what's the best way to approach them without thinking we should mind our own business? I wouldn't compliment her legs OP, but try and find another way to chat to her |

Do you have any form of conversation with this lady?
If you've never spoken to her before, and you randomly tell her she has great legs, you will probably make her feel very uncomfortable. |

Yeah I agree with this. If you like her maybe just try and strike up a general chat. |

Well yes, if OP was to strike up a conversation about the weather (good old British craic), and edge it towards if she has nice plans for the weekend? Then that's very different |

I doubt the police would attend a leg complimenting incident |

I agree. If you like her OP try and strike up a conversation with her about something and take it from there. If you’ve never spoken to her before , complimenting her legs could come off as a little weird. |

Head to the bakery aisle and pick up a baguette. Drop a subtle hint about how big baguettes are these days and how you can't wait to tuck in when you get home.
The way she responds will tell you all |

"I should of pointed out that there's usually a bit of banter when there , not a straight out the blue that she's got good pins . But definitely wouldn't say now"
This is a situation that's frequently misinterpreted. You have to take into consideration that she's essentially a captive audience whose job description is 'be nice to customers'. You complimenting her legs however well intentioned might make her feel uncomfortable...it might not but the problem is you don't know. Hence our advice to keep it as it is.
Do you hope for more or just a pleasant bit of friendly banter? |

Ok, keep the friendly banter going and avoid mentioning her legs

Its a bad situation when you cant give someone a genuine compliment

I just think that particular compliment could potentially make someone feel uncomfortable. It’s definitely not a call the police situation though ffs |

There's an appropriate time and place to compliment people on their body. |

For me, if i want to compliment someone, i do it. A little compliment can really brighten someones day. I am not sure if she would find it wierd if they are on friendly terms |

I'm not sure how she would interpret it either because I don't know her. I do however speak from direct experience and when I was working in a shop I didn't want men complimenting my body. It made me uncomfortable |

Depends on the compliment, no? That colour really suits you, or have you had your hair done? Can feel really uplifting to me personally... Nice tits, or pins. Probs less so |

I don't think people get upset by genuine compliments. I think women get upset by inappropriate comments. Some men who make these comments then act all offended saying things like "you can't say anything nowadays".
A little understanding goes a long way. |

Slam a tin of Heinz down at checkout and announce she scans the beans you’ll add the sausage. Wink at her.
When the burly men carry you out yell how the prices are better at (other supermarket) and this is all very “end of the aisle treatment”. |

I can't speak for all women obviously but in general I preferred to be able to work at my job without being complimented on my body by men. By all means chat, be friendly and compliment my work though |

How do you feel about being complimented by women or any other gender?
its a genuine question, because i know many women accept things said by women, they would never accept from men. |

It depends on the context. I don't want anyone of any gender commenting on my body when I'm at work.
If I'm walking down the street I don't want anyone of any gender saying any version of "nice tits".
I receive (some might be aghast at this) compliments fairly regularly from people I know and strangers, I can usually distinguish between the ones with sexual intent and the ones that are just genuinely because they want to be nice. |

Keep in mind op she’s at work, in a place she’s not free to be herself, she’s forced to be polite and smile and make conversation and put a happy face on, otherwise she’s shouted at by managers
If you saw her while she was out of work that would be different, she’d be free to speak as she wanted

If you give the compliment as “just so you know, you look really nice!” And don’t ogle her like a horny beast, you’ll be fine.
It’s creepy otherwise. Make it about her whole look, not about one part of her body you check out. |

I think we've reached a stage where *some* men (and women) are confused about what constitutes a genuine compliment and what can be interpreted as sexual harrasment. As a general rule if you wouldn't be happy with someone saying what you're about to say to your mum, sister or legal aged daughter, then keep your trap shut. |

Obviously I have no background but *if* one remark meant helpfully lead to him being disciplined to the point of nearly losing his job then something is seriously wrong. |

I argued that if you used names all the time it became a bit formal, the odd term of endearment breaks it up a bit |

I suppose it depends on the client. A woman in the next bed to my mum in hospital preferred to be treated very formally. She found personal care much easier to cope with if the people doing it called her Mrs. Smith (not her real name). I suppose flexibility is required |
